Boogie (Days And) Nights

Quick personal boogie anecdote that likely means nothing - I met boogie's dad in providence, at the Arkansas team hotel lobby the day before our disaster against them. Saw him wearing Stepinec Varsity jacket, so I knew he must be part of Boogie's team. Was a really nice guy and very complimentary of everything SJU has going on. I gave him the recruiting pitch on if NBA didn't work out this year, why not come learn under the legend RP and rock MSG for a year, and he was clearly excited about that possibility. Anyways later that night I saw a prominent member of SJU staff (not Rick) and I jokingly told him I was working on recruiting boogie, to which I got the response that we have ZERO interest in him.. As I said to start this post, likely means nothing but did seem like his honest opinion. Obviously things are always fluid.. but I'll take some credit if he does end up here
If an Agent gets 10% (I have no idea), let's put hattengoat in for 1% if Fland signs with us.

Is Fland listed as a first round pick in any mock draft? I could only see mid second round at best. This sounds like an RJ Luis situation to me. Meaning he’s definitely coming back to college for another year.

A couple of our better posters put out several examples of mock drafts yesterday - Boogie goes anywhere from late first round to early second round - much higher than RJ who wasn't in any of the mock drafts posted.

Thanks, just read the whole thread and saw what you’re referencing. I thought RJ at least was on a couple late second-round mock drafts, maybe not. Can’t imagine him not coming back for another year of college. There seems to be a wide range of possibilities for Fland, on the other hand.

ESPN didn't even have him on their last mock in March and has the #48 prospect. It's a huge range. Wouldn't shock me if he stays in the draft because he really impresses a team, or that the scouts tell him one more year would go a long way.

Which makes no sense since he could have always gone back to Arkansas.
Maybe if the NBA doesn't happen, he wants home, playing with Ian (his buddy), wants to rock MSG,
Wants the best coach in college baskeyball.

Cal only won one championship at UK. UK fans says that they would get 5 of the top 10 recruits every year, if Rick was still coach here that they'd have 3 or 4 championships by now. Rick is a much better game coach and developer then Cal.

Right. That’s my point - it isn’t NBA or Arkansas anymore. If it was, then he wouldn’t have entered the portal.
He is looking at 3 million at minimum if he comes back to college. That’s without the bidding war that might and will probably occur driving that price to 3.5, maybe 4 mil possibly. That’s a big check and wonder how many schools will/can go there at the end of May when most rosters are close to set.

I enjoyed your post BrookJersey and appreciate your efforts to share all the information you had about Meeting Boogie’s father.
If one of our staff said they have zero interest I would think they know things that we don’t and some of the things might be negative or proof that this young man would not work out here.
Anyway after several decades of frustration and mediocrity 2000-20 I refuse to be anything but overjoyed with Rick Pitino, his staff, his recruits, his player development, his nudging the school toward better facilities and his connecting with MSG so we have a lot more games there.
What’s not to like? Especially in contrast to what we had to endure. Seems we are back in the hay-days of the 1980s and before when we were a desirable destination, top 5 in all time wins, and had talented players and enough to many Ws!
I like Ws lol

When you have 99.9% of the pieces for a NC, then you do whatever it takes to get that last piece, he got Repoli, and he knows who Boogie is.
Everyone know Boogie if they follow college.

Whatever it takes to get him, you gotta do it and make it happen.

There are all sorts of interesting scenarios to ponder , if Boogie opts out of draft after the Trials

While it might make sense for him to return to Arkansas , Cal already has his replacement in hand and , has a loaded incoming Class of newbies and portal guys .

Stuff , I have read is that with all the talent they have , Cal has his work cut out for himself to allocate Playing time for all his 4-5 stars .

I only saw Boogie in that 1 game as he came off the bench. I don’t follow HS ball in NYC but , consensus is that he’s the real deal and very talented . A little small for the NBA but , so was Iverson .

Since it’s been mentioned that he and Jackson are friends , did they ever play against each other ?

And , what was the result ?

Makes sense for the kid to keep his options open. Otherwise, if he didn’t enter the portal and wanted to go back to college, he’d only be able to play for Arkansas. Arkansas would certainly take him back but he wouldn’t have any leverage and they could offer him less than he’d make from other schools as a “free agent.”

Same thing goes for the rest of the uncommitted draft entries (I.e. RJ, Watkins and Williams).
