2025 Portal

Yup. Just don't let Zags be the reason for it. Do find it curious tho... lol
No way am I using Zagoria as a source. But I have been curious about Pettiford for a while now.

He is obviously a perfect fit (I know, this may be the ‘no duh’ post of the year). He is unflappable and can handle the pressure of big time moments. And he is a Jersey kid we bring in to replace the ones who transferred.

Maybe the Easter bunny brings us a Jackson-Pettiford starting backcourt. We can dream.

Number one priority in a point guard:
UNFLAPPABLE
😉😊

So, according to your logic, a guard is a guard is a guard and they should all earn equal pay. They shouldn't have to compete for minutes based on talent and are solely played based on "equity".
This isn't even the formula in communist China!😉😉
The positions, while both called guard may require different skill sets like passing ability, defensive quickness, foul avoidance, foul shooting percentage, etc.
Finally, college basketball scholarships are subject to annual renewal.
If a player like Wilcher is offered a renewal but wants more $$$ even though other players may get more minutes in a short 30+ game season, then it's HIS choice to move on but to imply that if he doesn't get what they would offer a Boogie Fland or other elite type player "disrespectful" is preposterous beyond words.
Lots of words, little sense. Why not read to understand rather than respond. Lastly, Boogie ain't gonna be dancing in Carnesecca this season.

Pettiford is going to be the starting pg at Auburn next year. He would be a fool to leave that situation. Hes not going anywhere.
Not sure his supporting cast in Auburn will be better than what he could be surrounded by with us next year. Plus if a PG from this area has NBA aspirations, is there any grander stage then running a Top 5 team to a packed house on Broadway! I feel the same about Boogie. Call me biased but the national attention they would get here is unrivaled.

You are being biased. Both of those players are in great spots and arent going anywhere.

You’re biased as many are with blinders on when it comes to Fland and Pettiford who are in perfect situations for them with plenty of NIL.

Forgive us for being biased about SJU hoops in an SJU hoops fan site.

We will all try to do better.
Well he said call him bias. Nothing wrong with being biased on a fan site. But the constant Boogie and why would he stay where he is and the on and on like we should be the only destination for anyone especially about someone not even in or hinted at going into the Portal is enough to make some bias fans want to to hurl.

Don’t forget though. We had Russel Robinson transferring here forever till someone found out he was 30something busting our hopes

You clearly missed the point of my retort.
If others agree with you they are merely kissing your tuchus as a respected poster....which you are.😉

I objected to your description of St. John's and its representatives (Matt, RP, MR) as being disrespectful in not meeting a player's monetary demands if a player plays the same position after a higher offer to another player. What is it about that that you and the others don't agree with???

If "negotiating" is now considered a disrespectful business tactic you clearly shouldn't express your "equity" concerns in the NIL era.
This is not civil service where all secretaries who type 120 wpm earn a standard rate.
Your position is player-centric and we know your history. That's fine and dandy but I wouldn't want you on the St, John's side of the bargaining table
That is what I "understand" about positions you take. 😉

Yes or no. Is there a correletion to winning teams/tournament and enrollment/donations subsequently going higher ?
Who cares if we don't have the same revenue to share with other teams. This is a basketball forum
No-one here doesn't appreciate what a Repole can do, What does that point even have to do with anything from your original post
30 out of 330 is not monopolistic it's not that far off from how it was before when certain schools got away with paying kids under the table. If anything NIL has given the ability of some like us to become relevant a lot quicker again. And fairer than the original system
Kids make their own choices. Some actually move down for more playing time better system. ( Brady )

Do I like the 2025 portal ? I find it annoying but it's a lot better than tracking a hs player for 2 years

Regardless doesn't mean the players are not worth 1/10th of what they are getting paid like you claimed because when a team wins their revenue goes higher and schools have been making money off the kids forever
The answer to your first question is NO and YES.
No, enrollment is not necessarily correlated to a school having a winning basketball team. Actual enrollment throughout the United States is more closely related to a school's academic rating. In the end game of college acceptance, kids usually pick the school they perceive as academically elite given their academic resume and goals.
Ergo, that's why while we at St. John's may be New York's Team, a D3 school like NYU owns the application/enrollment crown.
YES, applications can go up but it doesn't translate into elite students who will grow our academic reputation. If St. John's wants to profit from "tuition paying" students all they have to do is recruit more foreign students.😉

YES.....100% donations will increase. But they also increase when academically elite students become successful in "business" and eventually give back to Alma Mater.
Only a fraction of former athletes, many of whom now have little connection to a particular school they may have attended....amongst others......will ever give a dime back to St. John’s. Especially if they were disrespected in their NIL offer.😱

All I know is that most universities, administrators and coaches have expressed disdain for the current system. Players, parents of players, agents and player advocates see it differently.
Select your bias with a grain of salt but beware that the current hypertension, if untreated, will hurt the majority of colleges.....like the Saint Francis of PA of America.
