SJU Portal Targets

The strange thing is Wilcher would have done so much damage and put up wild stats if he played at the schools of some of the guys we are rumored with played.

Really makes you wonder if kids like Sim are better off going to a team in a lower level with guaranteed 30 minutes and hitting the portal as a soph averaging 20 and 6.
For a lot of kids that’s gotta be the route. But Sim was top 40, not sure that highly ranked are going to think they can’t break through early.

And is he getting better looks than he got last year as the primary scorer in a lower level? He would have piled up some good scoring numbers for sure, but idk how efficient it would be.

If he went to the right system he would have no shortage of good looks. The only reason he got good looks here was Kadary.

The one thing with Sim that is different than most of these young kids around the country is that he was given a chance. He had a path to 15 minutes as a frosh and he got 25 minutes as a soph. Still helpful to try to see what Wilcher would have done at the schools we are recruiting kids from to keep things in perspective.

Anyone on here know how CRP and his team go about analyzing and approaching portal candidates? Based on what I have read, the coaching staff reach out to the agents of the targeted kids to make the “pitch”, maybe even before they enter the portal? So, I assume much time is spent pouring over game videos of every kid on the list, with the amount of time spent on each kid in somewhat proportion to where each target is ranked on the coaching staff’s list of desired players. I imagine that CRP’s staff have a fairly clear idea of the available pool of PGs (eg, agents hear from coaches, and vice versa, regarding potential transfer opportunities), including kids who have not hit the portal yet, but may be enticed to do so with the right pitch. We only see what gets reported, ie, when a kid hits the portal. Curious to hear anyone who has direct knowledge of how the portal decision process actually works.

Some things are better left unknown much like how they make sausage.

Assuming they do some of this and if they do, shouldn’t they already have identified someone they wanted in the past month versus sitting here with 3 days left til the portal closes with no commitment? Many good options have come and gone with not a public sniff from us. We have no choice but to let it play out and we will know soon enough.

Maybe CRP is bringing in a few Euro players? And maybe even Jimmy Chitwood. CRP wants to win. He has a plan and doesn’t panic. But, as Yogi so profoundly said: it’s getting late early.
