Thank You and Good Luck Sim

is the one that has me shaking my head. His first two years show nothing better than Wilcher yet staff felt compelled to bring him in over an existing player. I thought they prided themselves on development?

Sellers is here now but I will believe he will have a better year than Wilcher when he has it. Not rooting against him just dubious.

That ACC was atrocious, he is stepping up in class.
He was brought in. Why do you say it was over Sim?

Hey Ted, you're baaaack! From the 2-5 I would agree with you, but unless I'm proven wrong, we're not getting two points who could impact the game like Kadary and Dev. Now we may not need that kind of skill level, but we are going to need someone who can consistently get the ball to the rest of the players.

Yeah and we need a couple of guys who can defend at the point guard and wing positions. Ideally we add a point guard and wing/forward or point/forward who can do both pass and defend.

Looking 2 seasons ahead in this system is just dumb

Why? I think that's an absurd statment. The elite eight was littered with teams that had returnees up and down their rosters. Developing kids for 4 years may be silly, but 2 years? I am sure Pitino is looking 2-3 years down the road. You have to. You can't just add 8 mercenaries each year.

There is no way Pitino wanted Sim to go. Again, there is no basketball argument for not having Sim on your roster. But what can you do when a kid can get more money and more playing time elsewhere?

It is a year to year process under current system

Spot on. I hate this system and it definitely needs a lot of changes and guard rails

The question for those that are crying this morning over a kid entering the portal:

We sucked for 3 decades under the old system, and under the new system we won more than 30 games and a Big East regular season (40 years) and tournament title (25 years). As much as I think Pitino is a miracle worker as coach, we don't achieve such without the portal and the free transfers.

Just trying to keep it real because none of last year's Big East success occurs if we don't have the mercenary in Kadary.

Seton Hall should be crying right now, not us
Maybe Seton Hall builds around Sim? Are they interested? I’m surprised that Brady Glover and Sim didn’t package themselves with the same agent and stayed together. That would truly benefit a rebuilding team. I get it, we won’t be rebuilding under CRP, we will be reloading.

Brady committed to St. Louis

It's not that simple.

There will be turnover every year...that's inevitable now. But the teams that can retain half of their rosters are the teams that are going to win consistently. Florida and Houston returned almost everyone.

You aren't going to be able to develop a Maker or Glover now. You aren't going to be able to retain a Dunlap to be the 8th man. Understood, but you have to find the RJ's and the Zuby's and keep them for 2-3. You have to find kids like Ayo who will stick around for 4 years and play the 8th man role. You have to get those international players that come in knowing they won't play much their first year. And of course, you have to add 3-5 guys in the portal.

Pitino knows this.

We saved a lot not getting Lee and now probably save a decent amount with Sim leaving. It might be worth upping our offer to Lewis as it serves two purposes (helps us and might keep him away from Nova).
I am sitting back and going to let process play out. Maybe Pitino knows he is getting a PG guard who none of us know (save SJU79) and thinks using funds on that guy is more productive for next year than on a highly regarded high school player.

This is not 1990s recruiting and team building anymore
