Thank You and Good Luck Sim

This is a result of today's portal in college basketball. As Michael Corleone said to Sonny--It's nothing personal Sonny, it is strictly business. That is what both sides of the transaction (Sim and coaching staff) would say

he should be able to provide some point-forward ability as an upperclassmen

I mean, I don't even know why we bother recruiting players. Ayo should just play all five positions. What's the difference between him and Cooper Flagg, anyway?

By all accounts a great kid, useful guy to have off the bench, but I have never seen a basketball player be as great a beneficiary of "backup QB syndrome" as Ayo. Jeez.
Calm down with the exaggerations . I didn't say he was the next coming of Lebron. I said he is a nice backup piece. And he did eat into some of the available minutes for Wilcher in the last month of the season..that's the facts

In the same respect I've never seen a more overrated player that Sim
(Raises his hand in shame)
I still think if he leaves he's going to be like that guy that underachieves on the Mets, leaves, and becomes an all-star. (Jeff Kent, Justin Turner, the future Brett Baty). But wrong is wrong. I thought he would blossom this year and he did not. He's underachieved his first two years here and can't argue he wasn't given a chance. He was given plenty.

That would suck! Sim in his third year under Pitino would presumably be better than a five star freshman PG who will probably be here for oe year only.

The portal is a good thing in that we've become players for guys who would never have considered us not so long ago.

It's a bad thing in that we'll never see favorite players like Brady, Maker, Glover, etc., develop into future stars...at least not here.
Sadly, the thing that made many guys like these our favorite players in the past is that they are not stars; they team-first, bust-your-ass, do-anything-to-contribute guys. They accepted their roles and made the most of the minutes available. Now they can chase a better opportunity from year to year.

I'm a huge fan of Sim for his energy, his support for his teammates, and those moments of brilliance where you could see him as an unpolished gem. At the same time, I could lose my mind with his loose handle and occasional soft pass. I hope he stays but if he leaves, I'll wish him well and hope he has a great career.

Echo everyone (almost everyone) sad to see Sim leave, if so.

I was on a Spaces on X during the end of the season, and Sim's brother came on. Spoke bluntly about Sim's silly dunk attempt, lesson learned, said Sim and his family LOVED St. John's and Rick and staff, and brother was asked about leaving for more PT, said NO! Said importantly, family was close by enough to see all of his games and that was important.

Brady and Sim were extremely close along with their families, and Sim's mom called Brady another son.

Bringing in so many two Guards, and Brady leaving for more PT made this decision hard, and when his brother spoke, a lot of these facts were not in play.

Best of Luck wherever he goes. Just maybe not another BE school. No GTown, Nova, Prov or Uconn especially.

Jersey kid, maybe Seton Hall???

Maybe, there's smoke but no fire, we'll see soon enough.

Just throwing this out there...if Sim is really portaling that would be a pretty big 180 from the last few days where he just professed his loyalty to SJU and lack of fear at the competition (knowing full well all the guys Rick was recruiting). Two days ago his dad reposted a positive tweet about Jackson committing here. I don't doubt our insiders here so if somebody says they heard something, I can't say otherwise. But unless something changed drastically in the last 48-72 hours, this just seems weird.

I figured this was coming. Seller is, now, what we hope Sim can be. Sim is going into his junior year and his 3rd year under Pitino. Sellers was brought in, in case Sim doesn't make that big leap next year. Pitino wasn't going to take that risk and, now, Sim doesn't want to take it.

Sim is likely looking at more money and more minutes. He is in college just one time. It's a shame, but I get it.

Jackson to St John’s! Wilcher to UNC

Wouldn’t that be something ? It’s 50 percent highly unlikely but , hey you never know .

UNC had Sim as commit before RP swooped in , when he opened up his recruiting.

Plus , Cadeu is gone from NC. Some thought Wilcher backed out of UNC because of Cadeu ?

Which might have only been speculation. .

Time will tell where this goes but , I was a big Wilcher supporter and see the potential . Possibly for a real breakout season , just maybe not here .

On another matter , I was surprised in the Arkansas game that RP didn’t put Ayo in with 4:56 left to go , instead of Prey or Lefty

He always made clutch plays at the end of games! He has a beautiful stroke on his jump shot. Sometimes players take time to be consistent. The tools are there. Will he ever put it all together, yet to be determined.

Before all of the monetary considerations entered the college basketball world the transfer portals purpose was to allow players who were buried behind more skilled players and were unable to develop their skills because of lack of playing time.
There are over two thousand players in the portal and Sim , if the latest SJU possible recruit signs on may be the player who best fits the purpose of the portal.

Maybe it’s not about playing time.
The argument still stands even if the issue is money, no? Six days ago when he was professing his loyalty to St Johns he wasn't aware that the guys coming in might be getting paid as much or more? When Mr Wilcher reposted the tweet about Jackson committing he wasn't aware of the likelihood that Jackson would be getting paid way more than Sim?

Something just doesn't add up here, unless another school got in his ear and offered him ridiculous money which I guess in this day and age is possible. Hopefully they can find common ground and Sim can come back.

Yesterday, over 3900 entered for football. That was day one. LOL. The sport is a joke.

Interesting but here is a tweet from Rick Pitino on April 8. Seemed like Sim was in the picture at that time. Maybe things changed. Sure seemed like he was invested in the kid. Maybe Sim is thinking about exploring other options. I guess we’ll see.

Two way street sometimes, especially when it comes to how one sees his value v staff’s assessment. Also, adding off the ball guys like Jackson hopefully very soon, Sellers and Sanon can give a player pause I would think.
