SJU Portal Targets

Agree on Glover, but had heard Maker is in consideration for Preseason Big East Player of the Year.

Wow . That doesn’t seem like much respect for only our 3rd BE POY ever !

A 2nd Team All American who was also BET MVP with his 27 point second half outburst to win the BE Final Vs Creighton . After scoring only 2 points in the first half .

RJ was a streaky player . Capable of taking a game over at any point in time .

But , you think a few dozen guys could have done that huh ?
I am a big fan of RJ. He played injured last year and could not practice. He had surgery and missed most of the summer. His development time with RP was limited, despite playing for RP for two years. This year, I thought he got better as the year went on and really improved his 3-pt shooting at the end of the year. High-energy, high-effort player. He has things to work on: decision making, passing, ball handling, defensive positioning. But I still say he has 1st-round potential, especially in his 2nd year injury free. Great college player and one of the best to do it in a SJU uniform. I would take him back in a heartbeat.

It's brutal. I'm looking at Glover and Maker and how do they have a chance? If they stay and somehow get 5 minutes, there will be some kid who played 30 at a school like Duquesne that will be brought in either over them or to compete with them in two years.

Even if you really like a kid, how can you bank your entire season if they are unproven?
Only caveat is that coaches get to see these kids practice and workout daily. Sim, for example, saw a significant uptick in minutes between year 1 and year 2. There is a world in which a top 50ish kid going to a mid-major doesn't get the type of coaching and development he would receive at a Power 5 school, and doesn't get the benefit of practicing against high level players all year.

From 0n3:

Princeton transfer Xaivian Lee
Xaivian Lee is one of the best available point guards in the portal. The 6-foot-4 junior averaged 16.9 points, 6.1 rebounds, 5.5 assists and 1.2 steals per game this season.

Duke, Florida, and St. John’s are positioning themselves well in this recruitment. Rick Pitino and the Johnnies will host the Ivy League transfer on campus this weekend.

On3 also confirms Mitchell visit and "Rick Pitino and Co. are picking up significant steam in this recruitment."

Jackson: "The Johnnies are viewed as a major contender for the NYC native and former five-star recruit."

Sellers: " the Red Storm has the momentum for the 6-foot-5 junior."
