SJU Portal Targets

Ian has a history of playing PG in high school, AAu etc. Just not at UNC bc of Cadeau. He did nothing at UNC besides score which is concerning but also might be a knock on the staff for not asking him to do more?

That being said, if Jackson does become a Johnnie he will need to be a complete player as he will likely be starting and playing 30+ mins and the whole no defense, no passing , no rebounding thing doesn't fly with Coach P. So I'd safely assume if he's here he's all in on the buy in

‘I’ve always been a student, a student of the game, for sure. I feel like, in my game, there’s always something more to learn,” Jackson said.
“Why not ask from our head coach, who’s played in the league, has experienced (the NBA), who’s been there? I’m always looking to learn. Whether it’s going good or it’s going bad, I’m a student.”

Not worried about buy-in or improving.

There is so much going on in this thread that it is hard to keep track. It seems everyone has thoughts so I figured I would share some of mine.

For example -

Sanon - have never seen him play but his tape makes me think he will be outstanding.

Hopkins - I think we are all familiar with him. Health is the only concern.

Wilcher - I love his potential. I hope he can realize it as it would be great to take a local guy away from UNC have him develop into a four year player who makes a significant impact. But like the Dylan movie whether it happens is a Complete Unknown.

Zuby - if anyone has a “Big East” body he does.

Lee - Saw him play once and watched the tape. He looks like he will play in the NBA. I will leave it to Pitino to decide to sign him if he can/wants to and figure out how to utilize him. I don’t obsess over levels as we have seen guys move up with great success, lateral transfers and even guys move down with less success.

Sellers- Never saw him play but the tape shows an experienced player with a great shot.

Ian Jackson - I watched him play numerous times at Hayes. One of the CHSAA guys that you get the luxury to watch basically for free. Fland was another recent example.

I didn’t see him the year he transferred which was a disappointment. I thought he was overrated because he didn’t shoot that well at Hayes. I thought he might turn into a Rawle Alkins in college. His shooting this season far exceeded my expectations. He is so athletic that with commitment he can be a great player. Of all the names mentioned this would excite me the most. Hayes kid leaves UNC and thrives at St. John’s.

Wright - we saw how good he is. Not expecting him to come here but who knows.

Others - names keep popping up every day.

I love that we have multiple reserves returning with at least a year with Pitino.

I trust the coach to have the roster construction figured out, and that St. John's will be well positioned to compete at the upper level of not only the Big East, but the NCAA in general. No need to stress about it - he will figure it out.

Any thing you may elaborate on?
Why would it go badly?
Talking about nothing off the court.

I just don't know how much I trust Wagner being a full-time, pass-first, good decision-making, PG for an entire season. Feel like we may have too many cooks in the kitchen, a la Kansas. We really need that guy at the 1 who is selfless, wants everyone to be happy, and knows how to set people up.

You can also convince me that a change of scenery, better coaching, and the talent on this team will be so high, and he has every incentive to buy-in, that he taps into his potential & we're humming on offense + our floor is higher on defense than expected.

Lee would be fun for sure, but I think an Arkansas player will be running the point for us.
DJ Wagner, is rumored interested in SJU by folks I respect. If Pitino could rein in Russ Smith, can he do so same with DJ to make him a more consistent distributor? Question of the day 😇.

I prefer Lee, but just noting a potential, not perfect Plan B.

Obvious point but hopefully when Florida inevitably brags about Clayton to Lee, Rick can counter with “that was my player I helped develop and FL got finished product!”. Florida got very lucky with Clayton situation with personal factors & inherited a completed player.

Bingo. Anyone that think Golden developed Clayton into the current player he is today is naive - at best.

Can anyone on the staff resist taking Cal's point guard? Can we have both of them? Plenty of minutes to go around at the point.

Today's LMF helpful hints:

1. If we don't get a guy that we wanted, he doesn't suddenly suck.

2. If you have not actually watched at least a dozen games of a guy, well you're entitled to blather your opinion but self-awareness and some level of trust that people who do this for a living might know what they're doing is a good thing.

3. If you are posting about a player's race religion ethnicity etc don't ask what happened when your post gets deleted and you get points that will eventually restrict your posting privileges.

4. Y'all keep my guy Sim's name out of your mouths unless you have something nice to say. Because he's gonna make you eat your words and I don't wanna hear "oh wow he's great I always loved him" out of you next year.

My favorite post of the day.

I understand, but if the staff wants to entrust Wagner with the keys to the car, then let’s do it.

He is quick, has good size, and is strong. Coming back home (yes, I know he is a Jersey guy) and wanting to improve his game to become a third generation NBA player seems like a great motivator.

Wagner was high on my list when his name first popped up.

I want Jackson so much more than Lee. Others probably will feel differently.

Ian Jackson is an elite player that was in bad situation last year, given the head coach and available minutes problem (had to feed Cadeau, Trimble, and Davis too).

Give him regular 30 minutes a game at SJU and you will see an elite player (lottery pick) under CRP

Please get him before the $harks (Arkansas, Kansas, Oregon, Baylor, and Kentucky) emerge.🙏
Lee and Jackson would play different positions. If your point let’s land one of the two for better impact, sorry for missing that.

My preference is to have Sellers, Lee and Jackson on campus together, get to know each other, click and commit. 😇🤞
