SJU Portal Targets

ErsAll I needed to know!

Eloping Right now we have 8 returnees. I personally think Glover will leave but even if he does that still leaves 7 returnees.
I think Glover would benefit immensely practicing against these A-listers. At this point in his career he should be thinking about getting better and developing a more complete game. Last season at times he played like he was still in h.s.. Great potential though and Rick’s the guy to unlock it.

I'm personally not sold on Lee. I think his game looks great in the videos and I can appreciate all the positive posts from people much smarter than me when it comes to basketball so if we land him then I'll be excited to see what he can do. But, on the other hand, if we miss out then I will hope it is because the staff found a better fit for the program.

I do get leery with these guys coming up a level. Obviously, it can work out (see Clayton), but it can also backfire (see Mahaney). As much as I trust Rick in evaluating talent, I'm sure people in CT also trust Hurley the same. I recall some members of the board in an uproar when Hurley got Mahaney thinking he was the type of player that would bury SJU. Obviously, that didn't work out.

My point being I don't see Lee as a guaranteed day one contributor like I would if the staff pulled a PG out of the SEC or ACC. Maybe he was hidden away in the Ivy League for three years and was under the radar and he will excel here, or maybe the game will be too fast and the competition too strong for him. It really is a coin flip when you look at these guys outside of power conferences.

Some chatter on DJ Wagner hitting the portal. Honestly, I would prefer him over Lee only for the reason he has proven he can play in a league like the BE. His game isn't perfect, but he made our guys look terrible in the 2nd half and if he can drive and dish to shooters then that is fine with me.
For the board, would we feel comfortable with Wagner at PG. Comes from a long lineage of quality guards. Did effectively penetrate into the lane against our squad in the tournament. Played against the best of the best in the SEC.

Today's LMF helpful hints:

1. If we don't get a guy that we wanted, he doesn't suddenly suck.

2. If you have not actually watched at least a dozen games of a guy, well you're entitled to blather your opinion but self-awareness and some level of trust that people who do this for a living might know what they're doing is a good thing.

3. If you are posting about a player's race religion ethnicity etc don't ask what happened when your post gets deleted and you get points that will eventually restrict your posting privileges.

4. Y'all keep my guy Sim's name out of your mouths unless you have something nice to say. Because he's gonna make you eat your words and I don't wanna hear "oh wow he's great I always loved him" out of you next year.

"Gee, I don't think Aidan Mahaney is a good fit at UConn. That's kind of a big jump in competition from the WCC to the Big East"
"UHHH, HELLO? PRETTY SURE IF HE'S GOOD ENOUGH FOR THE TWO TIME DEFENDING NATIONAL CHAMPIONS THAT'S ALL I NEED TO KNOW"

I have no idea if Lee is ready for the step up in comp. What I do know is that "so-and-so is interested in him" in and of itself is not an argument, it's an Appeal to Authority. Way too many cases of guys not panning out after making the jump to assume its a given, even if some big time programs are after him.

Will he have the patience to do that? Not many in his circumstances do. I too would like to enjoy seeing him develop.

Has anyone checked with Tony on the Boat to see if Sellers committed yet?
Seriously though…has Imram the Austrian kid committed?

Would be nice for anyone posting to repeat the player's name in your post, rather that calling the player "he." Makes it much easier to follow the discussion as we jump from thread to thread.
Who is on first!

Some staff think Ian can play a little point guard. It may be part of the “sell” to him. If true, I hope it is little as in “very little”. 😎
Ian has a history of playing PG in high school, AAu etc. Just not at UNC bc of Cadeau. He did nothing at UNC besides score which is concerning but also might be a knock on the staff for not asking him to do more?

That being said, if Jackson does become a Johnnie he will need to be a complete player as he will likely be starting and playing 30+ mins and the whole no defense, no passing , no rebounding thing doesn't fly with Coach P. So I'd safely assume if he's here he's all in on the buy in
