Alex Karaban declared for the NBA draft last year- he was projected to be mid second round- and did not decide to return to college until the end of May. Hurley kept his spot open for him. And it’s not like UConn didn’t have a lot of holes to fill in the roster.

Point being, if Pitino wanted to hold a spot for RJ, he would.
The difference could be the intent that is driving the decision…if the intent is to get intel on skill gaps, you hold the spot (unless the player has already indicated that the NIL offer is insufficient)…if the pressure from family/agent is to go pro then you have to assess probability of a return. If it doesn’t meet tolerance level you have to move on.

Hot take: I think our overall offense will be better next year without RJ. The Half Court really stalled once the ball got in his hands. Luckily, they got away with it against undersized BE teams. We saw how that worked against the Hogs, who had legit size at multiple positions. Defense will take a hit, but I’m good with that if the scoring efficiency improves.

It should be! Our offense was ranked 66th in the country

This is such a crazy market, it's hard to be critical of the 2.5 nimber being floated by our fans. I'm never right about this but i think a reasonable pricetag is about 1 mm or at least closer to 1 than 2.

Having said that my hope (prayer) is that on the exit interviews this weekend both sides agree thst all things being equal, unless the nba calls, rj should come back with business to finish.

It's only a couple of million bottles of colored water.

This whole NIL fiasco is ruining college basketball. Mid-major colleges will no longer compete in the NCAA’s. Think about it, if you’re a good player on a mid-major team, you’re gonna want to take your game to the next level at a better basketball school, leaving mid-majors scrambling for players
And in a few years I can see the structure of the NCAA imploding with the SEC, Big Ten, Big 12 and MAYBE a grouping of ACC and a handful of Big East schools that will survive and create their own sport championships! The ACC will never kick out their football brethren so I can see them taking in only/ a few BE schools.
Realistically the majors don't give a hoot about including the non football schools in their sport championships anyway. The way NIL is heading many of the Olympic sports will either disappear or be folded into the USOC umbrella. The Super Conference of those four will host their own National championships.

Were posts deleted or have I lost my mind?

Beast , you and a few others have presented a accurate assessment of RJ’s play , not only for the Season but , also the final game .
Panther too, has defended him as well against some of the ridiculous and nasty comments .

I like that you referred to the BET Final against Creighton. In particular . RJ had 2 points at the half . But , erupted in the 2nd half for 27!

How many players at any college , in any league were capable of that type points explosion ?
The answer is , none .

We all know and knew , RJ is a streaky player and has been all season . Quite able to erupt into a scoring machine at any time .

There were other factors that happened in the Arkansas game .

KR , the player who created much of our offense this season played 16 minutes out of 40 . Not only was he able to score himself but , was instrumental in getting the ball to Zuby , Scott , RJ and Wilcher .

With him being mostly a spectator , who was going to fill that role ? We had no one !

Smith ? He’s not KR , not even close . He played hard with his injury but , could not deliver the points , assists , rebounds that KR does .
And , that is why we lost against Arkansas .

Mention has been made over and over that RJ lost that game for us .

That’s BS !

Who was going to step up , with Wilcher and KR out of the game ? Zuby ? Yes , but he was well defended and not easy to get him the ball down low , where he thrived

Scott ? He was 1-10 with a injured thumb . He tried but , was not much of a contributor . Smith , great effort . But , critical mistakes at crunch time . Missed free throws and that pass he threw to the Arkansas player that was a turnover we never recovered from .

What happened here is that the players who got us to the BE Title , etc weren’t all available in this game for significant playing time .

And , what many complain about with him are his “ bull rushes “ to the basket .
What isn’t mentioned is that rushes often provided him with free throws and he’s a pretty good shooter from the line .

In fact , he was fouled on his last play , made the 2 free throws and the game was now 62-60.

And , that was that .

Good luck to this young man as he embarks on his next journey , Either in the NBA draft or , at another College .

Make no mistake , he will have many offers from some top tier schools with a lot of $$$ involved .

I’m not a Scout but , it’s amazing that a player like Carraban for example is rated higher as a NBA prospect than RJ ?

To me , RJ has much more game but , that’s only my opinion .

A public warning was posted that repeating the same thing over and over amounts to spamming the site and that points would be assigned for doing so.

Yes, posts may be deleted for the same offense.

And meandering repetition gets evaluated the same way as short repetition. If you said it already, you don't need to say it again.

At this point considering that anything and everything that anyone might want to say on this topic has already been said, it's a short distance from being locked anyway.

Noted , thanks for the explanation . I think this topic has been very controversial .
Hence , the amount of commentary

I don't understand why RJ was benched. I don't understand why inoffensive posts get deleted. I don't understand how to fold a fitted sheet.

There's much I don't understand.

Carmine , I often loved or , cursed the real Carmine Abbatiello at the old Roosevelt Raceway.

Depending on how his horse did or , didn’t .

Red and Yellow silks he wore . Easy to follow on the back stretch . Where you could tell if he was going to try and win or , just out for a evening sulky ride .

I always bet him from the number 1 post position . He liked to go for the lead and go wire to wire. Often times he was money from that position .

As for fitted sheets , I’m not permitted to help my Wife when she changes them .
No skill she says.

I’m looking forward to next season but , first who we get to come via the portal .

I did some research on Hopkins . Didn’t know he was at Kentucky before Providence .

I didn’t look up his age but, guess he might be in the Eric Dixon category but , not yet a challenger for Theo John’s level .

Be well .

From this article "Luis has already seen that Pitino will claim many of the Red Storm’s collective successes but shift much of the blame to a star player for a loss. In New York, it’s “The Godfather” first, and his players second".

I love Rick and want him to be here for many years but I think there's some truth to this statement.

You’ve seen him claim many of the storm’s collective successes?

Mid majors will have all freshman and sophomore rosters instead of all Junior and Senior rosters. They will act as a minor league system for the major conferences. High school kids unless they are a Top 100 kid will have a tough time getting a schollie and will have to go the mid major route to prove themselves.

Who was the TV character that used to put his face in his hands and lament I’m so confused?
