Who is to say they didn’t see it coming? Possible he is worth that much $ to Illinoi$, but not to St. John’s and that Coach Pitino would rather allocate resources to other players.

Agreed, but if they expected him back at sju it would be naive not to think they would need to pay top price.

If Luis is asking for $3m, but you think you can get Watkins into the portal by offering $1.5m, that's a no-brainer to me.
If we are looking to pay $3m to anyone, the kid's name needs to be Fland or Harper. Otherwise, Zuby should be top of the pyramid.

I think it's business decisions on both sides of the equation. Totally enjoyed RJ, gave us incredible moments, and would have loved to see him come back...but I have no worries that CRP will work the portal and budget like a skilled surgeon.
Why are we making up 3million $ numbers?
Nobody knows what’s going on here at all, and baseless speculation is not helping the situation.
By the way, if RJ leaves it doesn’t help with our portal recruiting. Guys are interested in coming here to play on a BE tournament championship caliber team. Even Sanon could reconsider his decision.

However, let’s not be naive here. We took players from other teams. Other teams will take players from us and we will take even more players from others. This is what FREE AGENCY without any controls (CBA?) looks and feels like. We will experience Roster churn each and every year. We all might not like it. It won’t be for everyone. This is the system.
The good news is we have Rick Pitino. We will have more good players showing up. That’s what he does.
