(NCAA-WEST/Providence) #10 Arkansas, Sat., Mar. 22, 2:40p, CBS

First off you’re F’n disgrace who has axe to grind and does it after we lose in amazing season. Is this Rob Parker? God bless you. Mike Repole was never spending money on the program if Ricks not hired. I like Shaheen he’s a good coach but if they don’t get it together for him at Hall he’s going be on unemployment line.
Bingo

Arkansas is not a typical 10 seed. They have too much talent to have had the miserable season they had this year. First year coach with entirely new roster syndrome. Remember they were a top 15 team preseason. They brought in the top portal class in the country and the #3 recruiting class in the country. 2 guys who were major contributors for Elite 8 teams, 3 top 30 frosh, and 2 highly rated guys who came with Cal from UK plus ivisic. They haven't played to potential all year. Not saying this excuses the loss, just that to imply that Arkansas just some 10 seed is incorrect. They can beat any team any night. Just didn't do it often enough to get a higher seed.
And unfortunately for us they have been playing very well of late.

68 teams got to the dance. Only 1 BE team was in the top half of the bracket. if you think that's a power conference more credit to you.
Well, the ACC has 18 teams and only 4 got invitations. UNC got in on "name recognition". I guess you could say we are as good or just compare us to the SEC and BIG if it makes you seem more knowledgeable than the selection committee that does the Big East no favors.

Their 10 seed was a camouflage from early season losses. They put 5 solid D1 players who all can score on the floor. Smith, Wilcher, Scott and Richmond were all shooting poorly coming into the tournament. Loyalty aside, I was very leery that unless we played excellent offense we would lose.

I get it. You have a thing for the ACC and the ex BE teams that wronged you. I, on the other hand choose not to live in the past. But comparing the BE to the ACC this years is admitting defeat. If you had a restaurant would you want your comp set to be Chili's? To be honest that's where STJ and the BE is but I like to have some aspirations.

When I wake up tomorrow there will be no BE teams left in the bracket (unless I decide to stay up til midnight to watch the UConn game). The ACC on the other hand will likely still have a team playing in weekend 2. PS Maven would be so happy with your immeasurable wit. ;)

Played better down the stretch but late in the season lost to last place S. Carolina in what was thought as a must win game.

Agree, would have SO much preferred to see Kansas win in first round.

Sorry but every single "redmen" fan has been living in the past for the past quarter century......you included! When was the last time you didn't try to diminish the Big East? I've lost count. Yes, I hate the ACC because they were early instigators in destroying college basketball as we knew and loved. That they have 18 teams spread across the country and sucking gives me a boner.
When you wake up tomorrow Duke will be in it because of Cooper Fagg.
We will not because our 72 year old coach decided to teach his best player a life lesson before returning his cold soup to the waitress.

Well....this was certainly a punch in the gut.

We were awful offensively, yet we were still in the game. To me, the more frustrating part of the game was our defense. They beat us off the dribble, but what really killed us was the help defense was consistently late. Arkansas did a good job of sealing the paint and creating those free runs to the basket (Marquette also did this for Kam Jones), but for most of the year it was not nearly this easy for our opponents.

We also gave up a too many offensive rebounds and second chance shots.

I ride with RJ.

This kid has been showered with accolades over the past two weeks and, I am sure, felt pressure to live up to the hype. Today, he tried to do too much and reverted back to the dead-end drives to the basket. RJ is a super skilled player, great teammate, and family-oriented individual. I am bummed about this loss, but also giving RJ a pass. Come'on back and let's run it again young man.

Team lost the plot today especially RJ, but KR - the best player on the team by the way - only getting 16 minutes is why they lost. That doesn't change the fact that 15 of the sweet 16 will likely come from the power 3. Not sure what the BE can do to stop that trend in the future.

Funny that we lost today by more points than we did all four previous losses...sigh...
Coach I'm sure will fix the outside shooting and getting Dunlap back will help. Sim has to improve his defense, especially footwork and his overall shooting as well. We will attract some shooters in the portal after this great season, especially if we play most of our home games in MSG as Coach promised....players love the atmosphere when Garden is rocking...on to 2025/2506 !!!

Listen, if at the beginning of the year you were told that they would go 31-5, win the Big East with an 18-2 record, win the Big East tournament, be ranked 5th in the final poll but lose to an underrated Arkansas team in the round of 32, would you have signed up for that or even believe it? For me, they exceeded all expectations and i couldn't be more proud of these young men. The future is bright and this will just feed the hunger of whoever comes back next year. Coach Pitino will get what he needs in the portal to get us further next year.
No matter how hard I try to understand your point, I can't understand today's performance. As you said, 31-4 (18-2) record with Big East tournament and regular season champion performed this bad in the round of 32. Then, It is a problem with Big East league. Big East is at the mid major level.

What a pity.

Unfortunately the tradition continues: in the four seasons that SJU has won the BET we have won the first game of the NCAA Tournament, but lost in the second.

1983: Rutgers (W) / Georgia (L).
1986: Montana St (W) / Auburn (L).
2000: Northern Arizona (W) / Gonzaga (L).
2025: Omaha (W) / Arkansas (L).

But a wonderful season. Thanks to the team for this season.

I repeat my message to the team: Thanks!!!! ¡¡¡Gracias!!!

Kadary is the reason we are here. So I guess you can say Mike Repole is the reason we are here. The way the Refs and Pitino ripped the last game of his college career away from him is criminal.
Richmond reaches, all their high minute players pretty much do except Eijofor. He is really, really good at it but it still is a high risk approach, especially when you start to get different refs from different conferences from different parts of the country in the tournament. Unfortunately, he played poorly when he did play, it happens.
The simple fact IMO, is, outside of Eijofor, and in smaller, more relative roles, Lefty and Prey, SJU played poorly; very poorly on offense and Calapari came up with a great game plan to negate the Johnnie’s defense. Like water when it rains, the cries of “the refs dun it” come out of the woodwork from most fans of most teams when things go south.
I obviously have no actual idea what went on between Pitino and Luis but he did a like thing with Smith against Baylor and it cost them that game IMO so there is precedent. But again, many on here attribute the loss to yet another “ref gate”; I don’t, just different ways of looking at that game.
But Luis “wild child” approach has always been there, tempered a bit for sure but always there and it was OK when it was a major factor in a 31-4 record but in typical Pitino fashion, it becomes a huge scapegoat when it didn’t. How about just being a man and admitting your team played poorly collectively and Calapari took you to the cleaners? How about that and then doing the right thing and praising a group of players to the heavens for leaving it all on the court for you all season? But he chose to let the opportunity pass and frankly that was very wrong IMO. He was effusive in his praise when they won and Luis was the “It” guy, well, you stand by them ALL when it is over.
Pitino is a great, great coach but like all people, is flawed, and it clearly showed again in his press conference. This was a great, very memorable team, but neither it nor its coach were or are infallible.
Finally, I think most fans knew a NC was a possibility, but so was this game. Unfortunately, we got this game, but the idea this ending ruined a great, great season is just so much nonsense to me. One and done is a crapshoot and games like yesterday happen to the best of teams. I, for one, will always remember this season with great joy, it was quite a ride. But that’s just me…….

One caveat:

We got a first round bye in '83, so that was a Sweet Sixteen team. They did go one round farther.

Means nothing if we win the Big East Tournament in the future, IMO.
