NCAA Tournament seeding

That's how they try to do it, but sometimes, it's not possible logistically, for whatever reason.

The only hard and fast rule is that the top 2 seed (#5 overall) can not be in the same region as the overall #1.

That will be especially difficult this year as I'm sure they will try not to have SEC teams at 1&4 or 2&3 in the same side of a regional bracket. They may have to once but it probably isn't preferred.

Much prefer St Mary's/Texas winner than Maryland.

Also, go look at the 7/10 game. Maybe 3 is the magic number this year. Do you really want to face any combo of Kansas/Gonzaga/BYU/Arkansas/Oregon/Baylor??? Those are a lot of talented, underachieving teams.
I agree St. Mary’s is well coached but on a good day Maryland is as good as anyone we have played this year. However I will take Pitino over Willard any day in a close game.

Joe Lunardi is drunk because he has us as a three seed here:

omg... what a Newark Regional that would be... gonna go o/u800$ "getin" price...

this is killin me... im the best man for a Wedding in Ireland for the Regionals... saves money for San Antonio...

In his latest bracketology update for ESPN, Lunardi has a write up on St Johns and said he believes they have at least a 50% chance to start in Providence

Dream of Providence and Newark (which would be the first time I would ever have a dream that involves the city of Newark).

Holy March madness Batman!

Hard as it might be to believe, St. John's hasn't won an NCAA tournament game since the turn of this century. The date was March 16, 2000, and the Red Storm squeaked past Northern Arizona before falling victim to the emerging Gonzaga dynasty. The Johnnies have been back to the Dance four times since, losing their opening game each time. Now, they seem a virtual lock to advance in the 2025 tournament. Rick Pitino has lost just five NCAA openers in 24 trips, and three of the five came at Boston University and Iona. As a power conference coach, he's 19-2 in the first round. With at least a 50-50 chance to begin its NCAA journey in Providence -- where Pitino once led the Friars to the Final Four -- St. John's seems a good bet to make the second weekend for the first time since 1999. The Big East has won four national championships in the past decade; it's also not unthinkable the Red Storm make it five.

I don't think the corrupt, football centric Ncaa will do St. John's the favor of placing them in Providence with the potential for Newark. They're going to want to make it as difficult as possible for us and will be actively guarding against a BE, and more importantly non-Sec, three peat.

However, the father son matchup is just too sexy for them to pass on. I expect Rick and Richard to be on a bracket collision path somewhere.

I care less about StJ’s seed and Region than its matchups.

I hope is to not be put in the same Region as Duke or Auburn.
Idt anyone would disagree with you except for the fact that many want to go to the games. Going to games on short notice in providence and Newark is so much easier then booking a flight and possible multiple day stay in the other regions. NCAA tournament is ALL about matchups as Rick has said but selfishly we want to see our johnnies some more.

Indeed. They loathe private schools, especially Catholic schools.

All about the P2 baby!!! SEC, SEC, SEC!!!! And the B1G 18....

Think this year is bad? Watch how many "they manage" to get in the next few years. The P2 will do everything in their power to rig things to their collective advantage. It'll begin with useless pre-season rankings. The powers that be will pump up the P2 conferences and continue to slam SOS down out throats. They will eventually have teams with .500 records getting in.

If you pay close enough attention, we aren't too far from it now.

Watch how many SEC, SEC, SEC teams are polluting the list in September / October.

It's fun to even be speculating but..

To get a 2 seed, minimally we have win today and then the BET.

To get a 3 seed, win out in reg season (today and Marquette), and get to finals of BET.

If we stay in East first two rounds don't require a plane ticket, with Providence and Newark.

Guessing we will get a 4, with fair chance of a 3.
