Creighton (MSG), Sun., Feb. 16, 3p, FS-1

I was critical of Kadary early in the season but he’s been great in Big East play and I thought today was one of his two or three best games
Prey does the little things and usually plays good D and rebounds. But if playing 5 -10 mins a game eventually you will have to make a shot and he hasn’t since December I believe.
Ayo shouldn’t be criticized because he is a limited role player but he has a knack of shooting a shot at a point when it is a shot we need to have and he rarely makes shots.

NYCRedmen just texted that both Pitino’s will be on espn sportscenter at 10pm tonight
QUEENS, N.Y. (February 16, 2025) – St. John’s Hall of Fame Coach Rick Pitino will join tonight’s 10 p.m. edition of ESPN’s SportsCenter with his son Richard Pitino, the head coach of the New Mexico men’s basketball program. The Red Storm and Lobos each improved to 22-4 on the season with home wins over Creighton and Utah State, respectively. ESPN host Kevin Connors will conduct the joint interview which will air around 10:15 p.m. ET.

A few post-game Quotes

Rick Pitino

"I've never in my lifetime coached a team like this. All my teams work hard, that's a blessing I've had as a coach. But I've never seen these types of statistics and this much winning - ever."

Zuby Ejiofor

"It's something you dream of as a little kid. Playing at MSG, the World's Most Famous arena, [in a] packed house and you have everybody there to support you and you pull out a win like that. Especially when the win means so much. It's something I can't really describe. It feels good, not just for me, but the whole fan base as well.”

Kadary Richmond

"This is what I transferred for. I like what's going on in the city right now."

Rick Pitino on Smith:

"Biggest shock. I was shutting him down. [I told him], 'Deivon when you're 100 percent, you're back in.' He said [on Saturday], 'Coach, do you mind if I try a player development session? I feel good, ready to go.' It was one of the biggest shocks of the year for me, because I thought we were looking at the earliest after Connecticut. And to be honest with you, without him, we don't win this game. We're pressing the entire game, and if we don't have him, we don't win the game."

Well in that 4 game stretch I was willing to concede a loss at U Conn for wins over Marquette and Creighton at home and Nova on the road. It probably worked out better than that overall.

Best DePaul on Wednesday, hold serve over U Conn on Sunday, and we may be able to play Ayo 24 minutes against Marquette in the season finale without jeopardizing our status as regular season league champs.

Quite a season!

Not sure who our team MVP is, but one unsung hero who deserves some votes is the surgeon who repaired RJ's shin splints. Hard to describe RJ's level of intensity, but one term would be reckless abandon, with the reckless only appearing at times and the abandon constantly.
This is the best post on this thread so far ( and a lot of great posts )

There are many great things about this team and this year. But for me the number 1 thing has to just be what it’s done to the energy of this fan base and especially the younger crowd. The bars around MSG are packed pre and post game with delerious, younger fans who pack the arena. That was a sorely needed shot in the arm for this program. You walk around in SJ gear and people actually stop to say something to you, which hasn’t happened previously in this millennium.

Cant wait for March
