#11 Marquette (MSG), Tue., Feb. 4, 6:30p, FS-1

Weekday games are a killer in terms of attendance. 6:30 makes it hard to take our kids and we aren't at the level where we are going to sellout with out families come out. It is a great deal compared to the NYK and thats what brings out the family on the weekends.
Screw it, call and say he's sick.

Lets sell msg out. Probably the biggest game since 99-2000, yeah we beat high ranked teMs under Lavins, but we wasn't ranked, if we were we were probably in the 20s.

2-0 this week, hellz yeah.

Eric- keep me honest here…

To my knowledge- A book sets its line where it foresees 50% of the action to be on each side. So they profit regardless off the vig.
My point is, is that there’s no mathematical truth to the betting line. They want people to bet on it. I trust the other basketball sites since they have no financial incentive to set it one way or another.

3.5 is probably the right number but 2.5 definitely makes me more likely to bet

DK you're getting to the right place the wrong way.

Tomorrow night, St. John’s takes on Marquette in what feels like yet another must-win game—just like every other game this season. This team is ready to go, and there’s no room for error if we want to make a real push in the Big East. We’ve seen flashes of what this squad can be, and it’s time to put it all together when it matters most.

The buzz around the city is real. Madison Square Garden is going to be electric, but if you’ve checked ticket prices, you know it’s not cheap to get in. The demand is high, and that tells you everything about how much excitement there is for this team right now. St. John’s basketball is relevant again, and the fans are showing up.

Mike Francesa has had plenty to say about St. John’s lately, and while he’s never been shy about critiquing the program, even he acknowledges that this team has a real shot if they play to their potential. Love him or hate him, when Francesa talks about St. John’s, you know the program is making noise.

Let’s bring the energy tomorrow night and make MSG a true home-court advantage. This is the kind of game that can define a season. Let’s get it done!

I think we win!

Upset?? Man, it's going to be extremely hard to win at Gampel later this week. If I have this correct, not counting the covid season with no fans, we haven't won there in 25 years.
Chalking that one up as a loss. UConn has 6 days to prepare, plus McNeely back, plus at home, plus I think Reed may be a problem for us unless he gets in foul trouble. Perfectly happy to split home-and-home with Marq and UConn. Would like to win at Nova and home for Creighton.

I think if we split some fans will be upset. This portion of schedule is brutal and good to be realistic.
I’m fine with splitting these next two games. Do I want them both, of course . I really want this game tomorrow because then Friday night at UConn becomes a house money game. If we lose tomorrow then Friday night is no longer a house money game, it’s a game we kind of need.

Ideally the book would get close to a 50/50 split but rarely does that actually happen. The book just wants to post as efficient a number as possible. They'd be willing to have exposure on one side if they are confident in the number they post.

The more confident they are in the number the more risk they'd be willing to take. For example, point spreads in NFL games late in the season won't move all that much even if a majority of the action is coming in on one side. It's because they're confident in the data and processes they have which arrived at that number. On the opening night of the college basketball season, books will hang an opener for Canisius vs Miami OH but won't have a great deal of confidence in that number and a light breeze in one direction will be enough to get the books to change it.

There's obviously a lot more that goes into it (Books know who the sharps are and may adjust lines based on their action) but the bottom line is books will post set or move the line to be whatever they think is the most efficient at the time, they don't post lines trying to get action on one side or the other.

You won’t be upset Friday . Come neeet us at jfk terminal 4 arrivals at 8pm and we will watch the game in the airport

If the Marquette game was being played on a weekend afternoon, there would be 18k minimum.
This is why Marillac hasn't shut up about demanding weekend games next season. There is no other team in the conference that has such potential swings in attendance like St. John's. We are also the second biggest draw and a TV darling. It's time we started throwing some weight around in the conference. Next season Uconn, Nova, Marquette, Creighton, and Providence/Xavier must be at MSG on the weekend at a minimum.
