SJU Portal Targets

Time for Luis and Dunlap to start eating and let’s look to add a forward with some muscle because there may be some small lineups in the future.
I was definitely thinking this. I think a healthy Luis is active enough and the game is changing enough that you can play him at PF and hope to run other team into the ground. Dunlap looks like he has a frame that you could pack lean muscle on to, and his shooting would stretch defenses. He's also solid feeding the post, which is a nice thing to have from a guy playing the 4.

Throw high school rankings out the window after a kid has played two years of college ball. Kid is going to be a junior, right? We’re not talking about an underclassman and Pitino is not a miracle worker. The fact that he was five stars out of high school means little. Look at our completion on this one.

Kid had a major heart issue in pre season in year 1 and back surgery before year 2. Neither year was played at full strength/ability and he might have benefited from redshirting one or both seasons. That doesn't mean he can come back to HS ranking level but there is a strong likelihood that if healthy he will continue to improve.

PS I'll add that his heart issue was the same as Bronny's the following year in the same gym. I'd use that as a recruiting tool against USC forever. ;)

On this note even though I'm not thrilled about this addition, one would logically think that he looked good enough in his workout to sell Pitino.

Maybe this will answer the text about "insiders".., having never been one, nor tried to be one..just a guy trying to pass along info to a really enthusiastic knowledable fan base. I share what i know. Prior to NIL their were variables but very few. Kids sometimes charged their mind last minute but not often. Now it's passing along info which is fluid..it will be that way going foward. For EVERYBODY... incl coaches who thought they had players until the last second out of nowhere. So, and i only speak for myself...read it or not, your choice. This is the new reality. Period.
Thanks for sharing so much of our knowledge SJU79 - very much appreciated by the board. As you say, we all just need to understand we are living in a new (alternate) reality and as such things can change overnight many times with the same kid(s).

I’m most surprised we passed on Pope. Feel like he would be the instant scorer we need. Obv adding a point guard and a PF are needs as well.

Let’s see who else shakes free. But we’re only in the 5th inning. Lot of game left to play but we better start hitting…

With Joseph, Roach, Kriisa no longer in the mix, has anyone heard of other PG / CG's in the Portal who St. John's may be targeting?

I'm truly not saying this directed at you because I frankly agree. But if you told any of us that our centers would be guys ranked where they were in HS, we wouldn't just be elated -- we'd be dreaming of second weekend in March. It's amazing how much Pitino's elevated our expectations -- in a good and bad way.

Vince -- #28
Maker -- #120
Zuby -- #47
I am extremely confident that Maker is a top 60 caliber recruit.

Zach updates:

"-- North Texas transfer Aaron Scott is visiting Oklahoma this weekend. Has been to Memphis and St. John's. Decision could come by the middle of the week. Talented 3-and-D wing.

-- Rutgers Cliff Omoruyi is visiting Georgetown this weekend and expected to go to Bama next weekend. Still believe St. John's is in mix here along with North Carolina.

-- USC transfer Vince Iwuchukwu was at St. John's this week. He visits SMU tomorrow. Decision could come by Monday.

--Drexel transfer Amari Williams is down to Kentucky, St. John's and Mississippi State. He visits Kentucky Sunday. He has been to both St. John's and Miss State."

Zach's follow-up comment is perhaps more telling:
"I understand people are frustrated, but let's see what the roster looks like before making assessments. Just my two cents. They're going to get good players, just might not be who we all thought."

Was just about to post that, lol.
Good advice!
