Potential: St. John's in Las Vegas

Really interesting. 10 schools noted as of now for discussion and 8 would be chosen 1st year

Not sure how current rules work tied to multiple team events (MTE) and how many are allowed in one season by same school.

Baha Mar would be a MTE plus this right?

The article is back to saying St. Joe's, but I'm sure we're one of the teams in discussion for this year or next. We're also the only Big East team named -- you can't have any team from the same conference in the MTE, so there's ACC overlap (Duke, UVA, 'Cuse) and Big 12 (Kansas, Houston)

"A new in-season men’s college basketball tournament will offer up to $2 million in NIL deals to participating teams. The news was first reported by Front Office Sports. A source told On3 that Alabama, Duke, Florida Atlantic, Houston, Kansas, Oregon, Rutgers, San Diego State, St. John’s, Syracuse and Virginia are all in talks to participate."

Fyi.. I think found answer to my own question. If interpreting correctly, a team can play in two MTE's, but must be within 5 days of each other. So, perhaps Baha Mar, then right into Vegas a few days later.Screenshot_20240311-231340_Drive.jpg

Unofficial take

These pundits seem to assume the $1 million goes to current players? Is that the case? I could see some significant but small bonuses (say 25 to 50k) for each or many players but with most of it going to next years pile. I wonder if that will be left to collectives/schools to decide.

The original article notes that it would go to current players

Yes..this says likely Thanksgiving weekend

And this article says they need to get out of the MTE they're already in.

Looking at the other graphic again, I think "contests" mean games within that one MTE. So its two "contests" (aka games) within five days -- not necessarily two MTEs within five days.
