A serious question to contemplate about our players….

Just maybe it’s on the coaches to change their approach(s).
I think at this point it’s a combination of both the coaches needing to change their approach a little but also the players responding better to what they’re being asked to do. You hear Pitino in these huddles and then the players just don’t do it consistently.

If there was ever a question as to whether Zach Braziller reads this board check his column in today’s NY Post. Says there is a lot of St. John’s fan talk about whether we would be better off with last years team as opposed to this years team. Think Zachass is way off as the debate has been would we be better off if maybe we kept 2-3 players mixed in with our plethora of newcomers.

When you ask a question like this after losing 5 of 6 league games, it just begs for an answer that denigrates virtually each and every player.

It's just another version of the game "Which player from last year would you live to have right now?"

Essentially it's like having 4 kids bringing home C minus report cards, and asking "Which kid is stupid?"

Our guys need to keep working and coach needs to gets us through this. That's all.
I’ve disagreed with allot of your posts before and have not responded but since you directed this inaccurate response to me, I felt compelled to respond. Could we have used one or two players from last year perhaps but that was never the intent of my post. At this point I feel that many of our players by either our standards, coaches standards or by their forecasted hype have not seemed to be playing at the level we had hoped for. The first part of the question was which players we believed were or were not living up to these expectations. The second part was if not why? I was actually looking see what other posters thought and their reasons, especially cause this has occurred with our players under the leadership of our Hall of Fame coach.

In terms of those we felt did not live up to expectations there could be several reasons for this. One could be that coach over rated the players in his evaluation. Another which some posters alluded to was the more difficult level of play. Another could be that when you bring in the respective stars of other programs, when that stardom doesn’t pan out some tend to get discouraged, angry and lose confidence. That’s all I was wondering. But to be accused by Beast of some sort of surreptitious theme for my post is complete BS.

My post wasn't really directed to you personally, just about our very human response to go completely negative when we lose.

How we all react as fans is very indicative with how we cope with success and failure in our lives, especially with things we have little control over. Our guys win, we feel great, they lose, well that burning in the pit of our stomachs persist.

The more positive fans took your question seriously, and came up with a few bright spots. You went the other way, to answer your own question by basically saying not a single player exceeded expectations.

A season has chapters, and the book isn't finished yet. We've already had a number of good wins, along with some disappointing losses.

In sone respects, Rick egged on your post, by essentially saying our guys are slow and short, can't shoot, and can't play defense. Not exactly assessments you can build from. Maybe it was a challenge to his players to prove him wrong. Maybe he would be more careful with his words. Or maybe he just went where this thread did.

Where in my post did I say not a single player exceeded expectations? My comment read, when I was asked the question “who met or exceeded expectation” I couldn’t answer ….. meaning ,RIGHT AWAY but needed to think about it. I believe that Jenkins has exceeded my expectations and a few others like Luis met my expectations. In terms of Pitino, who do you believe met his expectations besides Jenkins, if any?

Obviously a case of people not understanding what each other has said. Type of situation that is easily remedied by in person conversation.
