A Tough Road Ahead….

With all the talk of metrics and a possible NCAA bid…… here’s the reality of the road ahead…….

To get to 12 wins, which with our poor OOC schedule/results, I believe we need to do to get a Dance invite, we need to go 7-3 in our final 10 games. That means sweeping 4 games from Georgetown and DePaul, and winning three of the other 6 which includes UConn at home, Creighton at home Marquette on the road, PC on the road Butler on the road and Seton Hall home.

That’s a tough road ahead.

Agreed Silly. We will sweep DePaul so that’s two more wins. I’m not sold on us sweeping Georgetown, if we don’t sweep them that’s three more wins. I think somehow we beat Creighton and Seton Hall at home. That gets us to five more wins. That leaves UConn at home, PC on the road, Marquette on the road and Butler on the road. I’m not confident we win any more road games after Seton Hall and Xavier and UConn is just too good. At this point I think we probably wind up 10-8 and end up needing to either win the BET or at least Make it to the championship game to get a bid.

My guess is we'll win some games we should loose, and loose some games we should win. We have proven to be very inconsistent all season long, and I don't see that changing. But then again, what do I know?

My fear is that if we finish in the neighborhood of Xavier, Seton Hall, Butler , Nova PC they will look at our OOC schedule and results and be in trouble as all those teams had superior results there. Figuring that UConn, Creighton and Marquette are in, will the conference get as many as 6 bids, perhaps but I don’t see 7.

You guys get too down after losses and too high after wins. We’ve looked exactly the same all year.

We are a bubble team and the only thing that is yet to be determined is what side of the bubble we finish.
Fair, my question to all is do you think this team is improving on both ends of the court? I don’t want to rely on the “we peak in February theory. I am not grousing after the loss, but I honestly don’t think we are, especially defensively. Thoughts?

IMO I don't think so either.. To be fair I thought we had to go 4-4 in January minimum and it would be the hardest part of the schedule and under CMA we'd be 1-7 or 2-6. We started January I forget maybe 3-0 ? Obviously we didn't end January how we hoped we just gotta hope we start closing out these close games

I just wanted to feel going into the uconn game that we were about to take thing to a different level that we havn't been in 20+ years, win this game and everyone would really be into the uconn game, just knowing if we win that game after winning the x game game, thhings would feel totally different. Damn we had this game too,

But screw it, we lost and that's that. It's just hard man.

We are 5-5 in conference with 10 games to go. Here’s the rest of the schedule with my guesses:

4 likely wins (Depaul,G’Town), 3 likely losses (UConn, Marquette,Creighton) .

That brings us to 9-8 with Providence, Seton Hall, Butler remaining. Win just 1 of those and we finish 10-10. That, along with Pitino’s star power, should be enough to get us into the Dance.

UConn (Home) : L

DePaul (Home): W

Marquette (Away): L

Providence (Away): ?

Seton Hall (Home): ?

G’Town (Away): W

Creighton (Home): L

Butler (Away): ?

DePaul (Away): W

G’Town (Away): W

Frankly, I feel confident in beating Creighton at home. I'm on the fence at Providence, at Butler, and (believe it or not) at home this weekend versus UConn. I only "feel" a loss versus Marquette.

I still think we'll end up with 11 or 12 conference wins.

I don't think we need 12 wins. I think 10-10 in conference gets us a bid. Pitino brings TV ratings and they won't pass that down.

I would have agreed if our OOC performance was better. Also, if other Big East teams with the same or better conference records have better OOC results we may miss out. I don’t think the Big East will have more than 6 teams invited and right now after the top 3, there are about 5 teams in the same place.

A lot of moving parts for sure. You look at a team like Butler, that is tied with us at 5-5. But they've already played G'Town twice and DePaul once, so our schedule favors us. But who knows!
