Zags on O-Block-ya

From what I've seen of CO (and I'm far from an NBA personnel expert), he is several years away from even considering the leap. Great natural shot-blocking ability, but needs to improve virtually every other aspect of his game. Good to hear though that scouts are beginning to take notice. Positive hype for the program is a good thing.

Obekpa's offensive game is light years ahead of where Hasheem Thabeet's when he got drafted. Of course, CO is 5 inches shorter. CO is also a more versatile shot blocker and can go get the shot. I think he definitely needs another year but don't be surprised if he is a lottery pick in next year's draft.

Thabeet is 7'3'. He played three years at unconnected. During his last year at uconn he averaged 13.6 points and almost 11 rebounds. He's not even averaging 4 points a game in the league. Obrkpa has a lot of potential, but to prognosticate him, at this point, as a lottery pick next year reflects a bad case of homerites.

Nerlens Noel is projected as a lottery pick, possibly #1 overall, this year. He was more heralded as a shot blocker that Obekpa, yet CO has done much more on the defensive end thus far.

Haven't seen someone enjoy blocking shots like this since Mutoumbo.

I also like that we see some scowls and dismissive looks from him when he is (dis)regarding the opposing team. We need some arrogance and attitude on defense. It gives us defensive energy - and it seems contagious at times. A team that is consistently pumped up for defense would be great to have. We all know we have to work on our defensive assignments, but I like that he brings attitude to the floor.

That would be great.
Than someone can start a Obekpa Antics thread ;)

*He did stare down Canty after a dunk last night and the ref sternly talked to him on the way back down the court.
