up 10 with 2:50 left...if they can pull the upset our win looks VERY solid against them. I told you guys from day 1 that UConn would still be a good team. Their guards are ridiculously fast and they can shoot 3's with anyone. I'm telling you shooting 3's consistently is what you need to do to shut down the big boys.

Syracuse is vulnerable to losing against teams that have quick shooting guards like uconn. Will be interesting to see how the Cuse's matchs up in the big dance.

Game over 66-58 UConn wins!

Ironic...we shot 18% from 3 to get owned by Cuse...now Cuse shoots 18% from 3 to get knocked around by UConn. UConn shot 53% from 3.

If you can make 3's at a high clip and play decent defense, you can beat anyone. This is why our 3 pt shooting needs to VASTLY improve. Every open 3 UConn made they hit as they should. I feel like we miss so many 3's open or not.

Our shooting stats don't lie. we are a awful fg shooting team , poor ft shooting and generally at or near the bottom of every category.. We have no PG, no true center, CO, is still a work in progress..

Yet, despite all the warts on this team, they have 7 wins and you have to admire their ability to win against some pretty good teams.. Of course there are some ugly losses too.

I watch every game hoping to see improvement and not just from Sampson who has played lights out in the BE season..

I root like heck for the Johnnies but, it's been pretty much ugly, bad basketball for over a decade, save the 2010-11 season with Hardy, Burrell, Kennedy, etc.

i give Lavin 5 years to re-build this program to prominence, although NR got 6 ..Look what Crean has done in a 5 year time frame at IU..We're not Indiana but, everyone wants the Redmen to become something again.. I HOPE IT HAPPENS.

Don't write this season off, not every team that gets into the tournament does it in beautiful fashion, lighten up

Just wondering, does the year off with cancer count?

Johnnie's were at home against UCONN and jumped out eartly with the 3 provided by Marco. The three is the biggest weapon in college ball.
I hope Hooper and Marco transform the makeup of this team next year.
Meanwhile Providence down 12 at the half came back and knocked off terrible USF.
Friars are playing good team ball and will be tough down the stretch.

Interesting game notes:
This was the last meeting of the two powers as members of the Big East! Historic, NO?
The game, played at the XL Center was not a sellout even though Syracuse is/was Uconn's biggest foe.
It appears, even though they are having a very good season, unless they are ranked, the Huskies do not draw sellout crowds in their own backyard.

They will likely either be ranked next, or need 1 more win.

Back in the day when the college three point line was instituted permanently by the NCAA, which I believe was 1987, Rick Pitino was a young coach at Providence. He marked off 19'9 on the court, took a ball, and made a jumper, then another, and another. Eyeing how close the shot was (relative to the NBA's 23'9 line) and the vlaue of three points, he declared that his team would be shooting a lot of threes. That Providence team made it to the Final Four. A few years later, his Kentucky team also embraced the three, being nicknamed Pitino's bombinos.

Basically, you take the shooting percentage from three, and multiply by 1.5, giving a better value on the shot. A 40% three point shooter in college equates to a 60% FG shooter. It negates some of the value of tall players taking high percentage shots down low. Of course, you lose the value of getting guys in foul trouble, but it's a very effective weapon that SJU has never fully capitalized on. Overall, shooting is a lost art, as many coaches lament.

I find it hard rooting for the Huskies but enjoyed every bit of their victory. Did anyone notice the defense Uconn played tonight? That's right man to man. How about the guards penetrating against the zone, utilizing their floater for easy baskets or even hitting the open man for a three pointer. Unlike our putrid offense against the Cuse did Ollie have three guards passing the ball outside or one guard dribbling happlessly (Greene) while their defense didn't have to move. Still believe we do not have a decent offensive plan against any team's zone. Why Big East teams don't play zone against us is mind boggling. Before anyone responds that we didn't have Branch against the Orange is so noted.

i completely forgot we get Hooper next season, interesting to see whats going to happen when hes is thrown into the mix. I predict Greene will see alot of bench.

Cooley is a good coach at Providence and their program, like ours, has had several Coaching changes in the last 5-6 years..Welsh, Davis and now,Cooley, formerly at Fairfield.

Marshon Brooks went to the NBA a few seasons ago and has done relatively well..Although I thought Hardy outplayed him head to head that year.

Cotton and COUNCIL will be a difficult match up for us and the Friars are not the automatic W,playing us at home, that many here think they will be. Batts is tough inside too.

More than L'ville tonite, winning at Providence will be key to how well we finish up the BE season. It will not be easy..

Just goes to show that even against a mediocre opponent no BE team can afford to have a really bad game on the road.

I don't believe anyone ever said the remainder of our schedule would be easy. Most on here know we have our work cut out for us the rest of the way. Several on here (myself, included) feel we can finish up with, at least, 10 conference wins. I still believe we will accomplish the goal of 10 conference wins. Anything more than that is gravy, and likely places us in the NCAA Tournament.

I'll look forward to you complaining about something, even if we do not lose another regular season game.
