Yardbarker on St. John's

Wow, that was some interesting news flash. Tell us something we didn't know already.

Lindsey, pursue a pro career? Have they no basketball sense - this kid has no shot whatsoever!

People are basing it off of that. They aren't pulling it out of their you know what. Chad Ford did however recently tweet that him leaving would plummet his stock.

3. Nurideen Lindsey, G, Fr., St. John's Top 100 Rank: 36

Lindsey might be the toughest player in college basketball to rank. A number of NBA scouts that I trust swear that he's a poor man's version of Allen Iverson or Monta Ellis -- a super quick scoring machine who can get to the basket at will. He dominated at Redlands Community College last season, averaging 22 ppg, 5 rpg and 5 apg. But can he do it in the Big East?

If Steve Lavin can harness the talent, Lindsey could really shoot up the rankings this season. If not, we might be looking at the second coming of Josh Selby.

Very good point Moose! I wish Nurideen had stuck it out and waited for Lav to return to work on his game. Now we will never know.

I've got nothing against Nuri (well, that's not entirely true; I hate that he quit on us), but "he can get to the basket at will"? If Nuri ever gets to to the NBA, he'd probably set the record for charging fouls (got to believe to believe he was on track for it at the collegiate level). The kid's been through a lot, and I hope he does well, but as for being "a poor man's version of Allen Iverson," give me a break! Are we talking about the same A.I., one of the most talented and dynamic players ever?

Lindsey played 9 D1 games; IMO, he listened to the wrong voices in terms of a basketball career but he is not the first player, even at SJU, to do that (see Omar Cook.) Anyway, my point is all you have to do is look at Dwight Hardy to see that 9 games is not nearly enough to evaluate a player.

He has a lot of potential but was too stubborn to stick around and hone his street game into something that NBA teams will want. He leaves SJU as a guard shooting ZERO percent from outside and poorly from the line. He made a lot of layups by driving by guys, which he does very well. He travels all the time and turns the ball over like crazy. He has a long way to go to be NBA-ready. He wasn't going to let anybody tell him that though. He could have helped us as well as himself by staying at least 2 years.
