Small PF to begin with.

Impressive end of last season, but with limited surrounding cast, did he just rise to top of mediocre group.

Does not appear to run floor for secondary break hoops like last year.

Lost his confidence?

No off season shooting development

Bad hands, at least to this point to be kind.

Why the hell was Yakwe in the game? Mullin substituted him with 3 minutes plus left in the second half, taking Williams out. What was he thinking? And please don't tell me Mullin set up a play for Yakwe underneath after a timeout. Of course he fumbled it out of bounds. A pass from Ellison was also fumbled by him because he never stepped toward the ball. He is terrible, can't catch passes, can't score and plays weak defense. More poor decisions by Mullin.

If he averaged 5 blocks per game, that wouldn't offset his deficiencies, which are plentiful.

Not seeing the game what did he (Mullin DO WITH FRUENBERD?

I don't know, but if he's not content with 5-10 min a game, I think he'd be better off elsewhere too.

At this point, time is not on his side to make the types of improvements he needs to be impactful.

At this level, you shouldn't have to teach someone from scratch how to catch a ball, shoot a FT, dribble into the lane or just simply play basketball.

Think Yawke should transferred for his own sake Fruenberg should go back to Germany DO NOT SEE HIM DEVELOPING UNDER THIS STAFF

If all these guys were to transfer, with the way staff seemed to only want a one man class this year (concentrating on 2018) we will be scrambling to sign scraps in late signing ala Lavin. Better off trying to develop guys we have and supplement with a few more pieces. Besides recruiting may get a lot tougher especially locally if we have another 8-24 year and Rutgers and Seton Hall have good years which so far they have. We seem to be targeting the same local prospects as those two schools.

If Yakwe transfers and Zack doesn't qualify. Who is going to be our center when Owens fouls out, Amar? Unless Matt can pull some rabbits out of a hat.

I hope Freudenberg would stay. Still expect seeing improvement from him. Like his movement, passing and boards.

The answer isn't necessarily for players to transfer. It's to develop them especially the big men because maybe Chris and Mitch are having more of a positive influence on the guards.

And more importantly is to get them playing defense

Agreed. He passes well so he definitely has IQ

Other than jumping ability -- to make blocks and grab a random rebound (although not much of that -- Yakwe brings nothing. No skills whatsoever. I would give his minutes to RF, and get him started on his career.

Besides his deficient production this season, what worries me most is Yakwe's body language. He just looks so miserable all the time, like he would rather be somewhere else. That may mean nothing. I don't want him to transfer, since he is so young and has the kind of athleticism that is hard to find.

We need to replace St Jean with someone who can develop bigs and coach defense
It looks like St Jean usually is the master strategist during the timeout discussions
But whatever he says in the huddle doesn't often seem to translate to the floor

We need Yakwe to get minutes and excel for the matter of we have verbal committment of highly rated recruit Boubacar Diakite who is an OSNA student and also from Mali like Yakwe and I'm sure he's a part of why St. John's is where he verbally committed.

Now, just hope Diakite can catch a basketball.....

Excerpts

I have a great relationship with St. John's. They made me feel a part of their family from the start. Having the relationship made me feel comfortable. I am excited to play for Chris Mullin and be a part of such a great history. This is a very exciting decision for me and my family and now will be focused on getting better with basketball and focus on academics," said Bouki Diakite.

Kassoum Yakwe's success and comfort level at the Jamaica, Queens university helped pave the way for Boubacar Diakite to join the rapidly improving St. John's future.

Yakwe is a tweener
His game doesn't fit playing small forward because he can't shoot at all
But he's not bulky enough to bang inside and guard true power forwards
He's a very athletic kid who, at 6'7", could dominate in HS but not in college
I was hoping that he would develop a mid range game this summer
Apparently that was not on his bucket list

He called a good final play. It's just that Ponds didn't make the open shot.

While he's certainly regressed, he showed flashes last year. So much so that he was one the conference's top 5 newcomers. I hope he snaps out if it. I think he can contribute. To me it seems more of a head issue than a physical one. 6'7' is more than enough size to play the 3 or 4 in college. He needs direction as to what's expected (defense and rebounding) and probably some intense coaching next summer. I wouldn't quit on him yet. But he's been disapointing thus far.
