Wusu earned the starting 2 spot last night

We keep getting off the bad starts.  We are not getting much from the 2 guard spot.  Wusu was a burst of energy last night and was able to put the ball in the hoop.  He looks 100% healthy now.

It is time to make him the starting SG for the rest of the season.  Posh, Champy and Wusu are the leftover core from last year and that chemistry needs to be out there from the opening tip.

We cannot afford to get off to these slow starts anymore.  Release the Wusu!!!!

I'd agree...

he's not perfect but he plays hard. Give him 28 min a game for a few and see how it goes

He had already earned it before the season started. Assuming these guys would be better than him was a mistake.

I'm going to take a wild guess and say maybe it's a Cazzie Russell, John Havlicek type of thing where you bring one of your best offensive players off the bench to give the team a lift.   Right now at least, Wusu is a more quantifiable #3 option than anyone else on the team and the only thing I can think of it that him not starting is strategic.

A lift guy makes sense but not when every game you play from behind right off the whistle. At that point something with the starting 5 needs to change.

Hey look at that... a guy who's played a season and change in the system is playing a lot better than more heralded guys who arrived over the summer.

Wusu has upside, lots of it. Mathis and Smith do not. Mathis will give us, more or less, what he gave Rutgers. And that's not enough to justify starting him. Smith? Who knows what he'll give us, but he doesn't have upside. I'd role the dice with Wusu and I'd also give Pinzon more minutes, much as I'm not convinced that he's ready for more minutes. Gotta roll the dice sometimes.
We will go as far as our backcourt + Champ take us. Our front court(less Champ), is suspect,  to say the least.

Here's a question for you Monte:  Do you think based on our experience with CMA in two seasons here, when his teams improved dramatically start to finish, he deserves a little more of our patience based on losing two games we were supposed to lose, and generally subpar performances in the 5 we've won?

Agreed Beast, he deserves more time. But there's a few differences between the last 2 years and this year. First and foremost the expectations were much lower the last 2 seasons. As such, there was less of an urgency for the team to be gelling early in the season. No one expected us to dance the last 2 seasons. 2nd, there are still a lot of questions about what most of these kids can contribute. I was never as high on the newcomers as many others were. And I always felt that the talent upgrade would have to be substantial, in order to offset the roster turnover. To date, I don't see any talent upgrade, let alone substantial upgrade. CMA needs to figure out the combo that will give us the best chance at winning, and he needs to do it quickly if we're going to be dancing this year.

Now, let me ask you this question; who on this team do you feel has underachieved this year?  Because Mathis and Wheeler are doing, more or less, what they did at their prior stops. All the other newcomers were  big question marks, and still are.

I agree with you on Pinzon and I am in agreement with you that he won't be a miracle maker. I like his height and I like his confidence. I feel the same way with Stanley as the first big man off the bench. He may not be ready but he wants to play inside and battle. I think Mathis has been ok. We need to run plays for Smith and Coburn and hope one of them gets hot. Maybe in my last post I was a little hard on Wheeler. I think he has some value in a press.

Disagree, he earned the 4 starting spot last night.  He is strong enough to move bigs around in the post and quick enough to leave them behind.  Keep Julian at the 3 and rotate in at the 2 and 5 including Pinzon and Posh on the court together.

Andrew i too thought Wheeler would be very good in a full court press. And I am still convinced he could be but unfortunately CMA has not been using him in that manner at all. He is allowing Wheeler to play where he wants which is of little use to us. If Wheeler plays out on the perimeter where he likes to hang around accept the same mediocre stats he had at Purdue and do not be surprised at his performance. In my opinion he has been a huge bust to date and that is on CMA and staff. This kid needs to be told in no uncertain terms this is where we need you and this is where you have to play or else, no ifs and or buts. Right now any one of Moore, Earlington, Williams, dare I say Cole would have given us more than Wheeler.
still time to get this corrected but with each passing game I am less confident.

We all Agee Posh, Wasu, Champ should be in the staring lineup. I also like Mathis . Soriano by default, unless Stanley improves quickly, he’s a little raw.
