They wanna make their basketball better , so you think Georgetowm, St. John;s, Villanova and UCONN would be good additions ?
Having St. John's would be a good idea because theres so many UConn, Georgetown, Villanova and other ACC alumni living in the NY metro area. I'm sure the ACC is thinking about their NYC alumni. And making NYC ACC territory it would open up a new market who'd watch ACC football. ESPN screwed the Big East I wonder if they'd put pressure on the ACC to expand into the NYC area ?

The ACC does not need Georgetowm, St. John's, Villanova, RUT-gers, Yukon or any other team.

Conferences look about done expanding to me. Only things I can see are maybe somebody snatching Louisville and Big East possibly adding BYU. Incidentally, if the Big East does manage to add BYU, I thing big East football actually has more quality than the ACC and isn't far off in basketball. Aresco needs to nab BYU and work on marketing.

ACC SAID THEY'RE DIGESTING NEW SCHOOLS;NO MORE EXPANSION(BUT THEY'RE PROBABLY BS-ING)....BUT IF THEY EVER EXPANDED,SJ WOULD NOT BE A TOP CHOICE...ITS NOT BUTLER...ITS NOT GONZAGA...NOT EVEN VILLANOVA,G-TOWN,UCONN......LAST TIME SJ WON AN NCAA TOURNAMENT GAME WAS YR 2000,WHEN SJ BEAT NORTHERN ARIZONA...BIG EAST BED IS MADE,NOW THE MEMBERS HAVE TO LIE IN IT...

Sure they do. They'll be looking to change their name to the Big East Coast Conference so stealing another one or two teams can only help. I really want St. John's to stay in the Big East and for the league to stop losing any more teams. However, I certainly believe that the ACC is sizing up another team or two. They're whores who will take another shot at us before long.

Don't doubt for a moment that Louisville, Yukon, RUT-gers and other Big (L)east schools are not actively campaigning for the opportunity to bail on the Big (L)east conference and join the ACC.

At the present moment no Big East team will enhance the ACC media contract sufficient to cover its dollar payout.

The reality is that every team in the BigEast would jump at the opportunity to bail on the Big East and join the ACC.

If you check the message boards of Marquette, Providence, Villanova and Georgetown you will see that even fans of some of the basketball only schools entertain the fantasy that the ACC will compromise its standards and admit a basketball only. Before you reply that Notre Dame is not bringing its football to it's ACC membership, please understand that the 6 football games Notre Dame is required to play against ACC schools brings $ value to the ACC football television contract and Notre Dame will fill the stadiums when it plays football against the ACC schools which is something that Louisville, Yukon, RUT-gers, Marquette, Providence, Villanova, Georgetown or St. John's can't do.

ND is required to play only 5 ACC games (not 6). That leaves ND with 6 to 8 games every season where they share ZERO$ with the ACC.
Over the next 6 years ND needs to add only 2 or 3 ACC games per year since Pitt and Syracuse were already scheduled while they were in the Big East.
Fill the stadiums? The 2 or 3 ACC home games not played at ND will be in much smaller stadiums than Michigan, etc that hold 100,000. ACC stadiums rarely have more than 50,000 fans attending....check BC, Wake, UVA, etc.
The ACC will NEVER admit basketball only schools.
The 50$ million exit fee will make any new members think twice about joining.
Once the Big East has a TV deal, there will be little incentive to leave.

72:

If you believe that Yukon, RUT-gers, Louisville, Cincy, USF, UCF and others would turn down an invite to join the ACC because of a $50M exist fee or after the "Big East has a TV deal" you are mistaken.

The Big (L)east consists of the orphaned football schools that were bypassed by the ACC and other conferences.

Yukon, RUT-ers, Louisville, Cincy, USF, and UCF are only in the Big (L)east because they were not invited to join the ACC, Big Ten, or SEC. If an offer is forthcoming from the aCC, B10 or oThe big time league then any or all of the remaining Big (L)east frrtball schools will bail.

Pitt, WV and Syracuse were big losses for the Big East. Had the Providence mafia not been so inept and had negotiated a better ESPN TV deal, none of those schools would have bailed (with the backing of ESPN).
The ACC and the Big 12 are the only conferences that had established, yet fluid contracts to entice the Big East schools. ESPN is paying through the nose to add those Big East schools and even more soon with Notre Dame.
To lose any members would kill the ACC as a football conference.....as in DEAD! The 50$ million was added to protect itself against the possible losses of the only 4 targets that the SEC or Big would want from the ACC---Fla St, Clemson, Ga Tech and Va Tech. Most of the rest of the ACC are basketball schools that happen to also play football. They are barely a notch above the Big East. Over the past six years the ACC and BE have been at the 5 and 6 positions in power rankings. That has not changed, especially with the additions of Boise, Temple, SMU, Houston, etc for football ratings.
Finally, referring the Big East as the (Least) is not very supportive and reminds of the hater talk on the ESPN boards.
The ACC is the only conference that had to resort to a $50 mil exit fee to protect itself. Does that spell "confidence" with a small "c"? However, the ACC turns out in the long run with Syracuse and Pitt, it will forever be the ACC or better known as the ALL CAROLINA CONFERENCE!

I agree with 72 this is a dead issue. also calling the Big East (L) East is derogatory .it is not the remaining schools
fault for lack of loyalty.
The reason many of the Big East members would leave the conference is that if they elected to stay one of their brethren would take the spot and that is the damning thing. Morally bankrupt Boston College started this thinking leaving a Big East solidarity meeting and signing with the ACC when (the next day?). When Miami and VT left the thinking was, that was where they belonged in the first place, but the BC betrayal started the other schools scheming. I believe the new members of the Big East would be more loyal to the conference than the original members and that is shocking. None of the remaining schools offer anything to enhance the ACC compared to what they have. By default the Big East may remain the same for the foreseeable future. The scum that run universities now can look to the bastions of faith and morals, the leaders of Boston College for showing the way
