Sadly this is not the first time one of our players has been suspended for weed on the eve if the NCAA tournament.

We've made three NCAAs in 11 years and two out of three were marred with drug suspensions. The other appearance was marred by dj tearing an acl in the preceding game.

It is simply agony bring a fan of this program. I love this team and always will , but every year I suffer as a fan. I could barely watch the selection show today. I was so excited going in today but once again I'm crushed.

Exactly, we all know that next year will suck, but atleast we knew that we were going to enjoying watching them in the dance this year. So, I wakeup and sign on, and the first thing I do is sign on and come on redmen.com.
The first thread I see is "obekpa suspended", and my eyes opened wide and my jaw dropped. It hurt to much and it's to damn depressing as a die-hard.

And none of the other 800 plus playing in the tournament smoked weed? How can he be the only guy?

This guy is not exactly the sharpest knife in the draw based upon his basketball IQ!

He and Shaw ?

How is the test administered? Does the ncaa leave it in the hands of the school?

School test for drugs (one of the things Cuse got in trouble for was violating their and the NCAA drug policy by allowing players who failed to continue to play) prior and during the season.

NCAA test during tourny, championships and bowl games. They use to pick a random group of players from each team after the completion of each NCAA tournament game and administer the drug test to them. Not sure how they do it now.

He is the only one we know of. It is not the first time. Oregon suspended two players from their team for the National Championship game in football and one was their top wide receiver.

NCAA test during the Tourny. I believe they do pick a random group of players from each team after the completion of each NCAA and administer the drug test to them.

Thanks for the explanation on the testing. It makes more sense that a small sample are tested. I'm not advocating the school does what cuse did. I just don't agree that the punishment should be unequal based on variations in school policies as reported in the other thread.

He was the only one of 1,000 that took the test and tested positive.

I really thought the Cook/Shaw backcourt was going to be one of the best in the nation following their frosh year.

Then Omar bolted and Willie went to pot.

I agree. Willie's career started with such promise. Then the Knee problem and Pot. And Omar, well, should have stayed. Then again, maybe if he does, we don't get Hatten and If Shaw had kept straight, a Hatten/Shaw backcourt would not have been bad at all.

My recollection is that Hatten committed prior to Omar declaring. I'm pretty sure I recall a quote in which Hatten expressed his excitement to play with Cook.

I didn't remember that Shaw had a knee problem. I recall him being a streaky shooter with a suspect handle and avg athleticism at best.

I went to a Hofstra game at Nassau Coliseum-- I think we lost -- but Shaw went crazy. He had close to 30 points.

Poor Willie, his disappointing career and cannabis indiscretion had all but been forgotten by most until CO's boneheaded move

Globetrotters don't drug test I assume, probably just the Washington Generals. :) Willie, a JFK & Riverside alum, has been a "Trotter" a long time.

Pretty good JFK team, lead by Shaw and Mathis Jr. if I remember correctly
