I n 1973, when I was a freshman, we played Penn on the W & M campus in the NCAAs. Took a bus there early in the morning and came right back after the game (I think).

We got there pretty early since it was a night game, so as college students will do, we imbibed. Since W & M were the Indians at the time, they had a huge Cleveland Indians lookalike logo sign atop the football field. We "borrowed" it and brought it into the arena, since, you know, Redmen. Their administration didn't agree with that concept and...can't remember what happened after that, whether SJU had to pay for it. I guess that's what happened.

And we lost. The first of two losses to Penn in the NCAAs, 6 years apart. I was at both, second one was in the NCAA Regional Final, the year with Magic and Bird.

Back to W & M, it's a beautiful campus, alma mater of my niece. And it's a state school, so in-state tuition is reasonable. But we should win easily.

I was at both losses too. Tough times.

So CRP said that you don't learn anything by playing lesser teams and winning by 30. Am I missing something here?

Maybe he just wants to use this game as a defense project?
