Wikipedia Negativity against St. John's University

Class of 72

There is a deliberate attempt by enemies of St. John's University to paint a negative image of our university.
No other university is as maligned on Wiki as SJU.  While Columbia University here in NYC leads the country in campus suicides and there are scandals at many other colleges, whomever is adding edits to Wiki is deliberately inserting negative blurbs from many years ago that are irrelevant to today's university. There appears to be a systemic bias by the editor(s) and an unevenness of covered information and history of our university compared to most other national universities.

I am asking anyone who has the technical ability to remove the negative blurbs below to do so ASAP.

"Controversy[edit]In the early 1960s, in one of the biggest point shaving scandals in the school's history, three St. John's athletes were proven to have taken bribes.[109]The 1990 St. John's lacrosse team rape case involved five members of the St. John's University Lacrosse team who were acquitted of charges.[110][111] One student pleaded guilty to second degree sexual abuse.[112] Another member pleaded guilty to sexual assault and a third to two counts of sexual misconduct and unlawful imprisonment.[113]In 2000, St. John's was criticized by the NCAA for misrepresenting facts in an NCAA investigation.[114][115]In 2003, it was revealed that Abe Keita, a basketball player, was given a $300 monthly allowance and free school books to be on the team which violated NCAA standards. Expecting NCAA penalties, the university announced a self-imposed two-year ban on postseason play.[116]

According to a Sports Illustrated article, St. John's basketball has a smaller impact than it once had because St. John's could no longer offer the housing stipend to its basketball players that it was allowed when it built dorms. According to the article, one player, Sylven Landesberg, chose University of Virginia because it was a superior academic school.[117]

St John's Lacrosse Team Scandal[edit]

In 1990 several members of the St. John's Lacrosse team and a member of the rifle team were involved in a sexual assault case. This case known as the St. John's Lacrosse Case Rape case ended in one guilty plea by one student and a non guilty verdict for the rest of the students."

Anyone can edit wikipedia Telsa, even you. It's crowd sourced, that's its claim to fame. I just edited it so that it says that you're the source of the quote you find so offensive: It now reads "According to CLASS OF 72, one player, Sylven Landesberg, chose University of Virginia because it was a superior academic school.[117]."

Of course I have technical abilities far beyond those of mortal men. Look. Up in the sky. It's a bird. It's a plane. It's a plagiarist. Wut? No, it's stuporman.

I noticed this years ago back in 2010. If you read the talk section of that Wikipedia page you will notice that a few commenters call out what is clearly some sort of agenda. Its pretty weird

You're a genius! Frank Zappa is rolling in his grave! Just as I flushed you out of your toilet bowl a couple of years ago by mimicking your sardonic wit, I now exposed who is actually behind the wiki comnents. First I was convinced it was RealFan, then I thought it was Joe the medium tee shirt guy but it was FUN all along! Can you contact FOAD to edit the rest of the negativity as I actually tried to no avail.
Thanks! You're a swell guy. ;)

EDIT: Just joking about you being the wiki source. The only rat I could think of that would go out of his way to insert that crap to put a cloud over our page on Wiki is Marco Baldi.

What is ironic is that it mentions Abe Keita receiving $300 per month which is a paltry sum compared to the Lexus driving players at Kentucky. It also shows we were ahead of our time with payments to needy players as the NCAA now allows payments to players. The athletic section is definitely the negative focus of a rival school scumbag.

freaking hilarious

Good job fun. Curious Class of '72?, which of the highlighted items is erroneous?

And re the suicide issue at Columbia, schools with higher academic standards, and the pressures and stress that come with that, traditionally lead the country in suicide rates.

Austour,
The issue is not the accuracy of things that happened in 1990 or whenever in the past when it comes to athletics but whether it is necessary and appropriate to highlight those incidents when describing the university in general. You don't see that with other major basketball schools unless you drill down into a separate section regarding sports.
I am sure if I listed the six suicides at Columbia this year many alums would not be happy even though it would not be erroneous. Nice of you to think that suicide at Ivy League schools is " traditional". I guess you can rationalize that genius borders on insanity too and maybe it is not the stress of academic competition but maybe they have more kids that are bat shit crazy.
The bottom line is someone is going out of their way to include the incidents I mentioned.
I have two nephews that attended NYU. Based on their experiences the university has a large proportion of flaming liberals, flaming gays and other alternate lifestyle students who dominate campus politics. Conservative students are ridiculed and speakers are regularly disinvited due to the lack of freedom of speech. Yet, if someone chose to highlight that under the description of NYU on Wiki I guarantee you it would be edited out in no time.

Cornell with long time bad rep re suicidality.

Yeah, we were always told that and I was going to mention it. However I was over on Fun's site to check on that and it ends up they are just around average (thanks for that Fun), however the nature of the actions, which usually meant jumping into one of the gorges and being found the next morning, made the actions more notable.

Thanks to Fun for inspiring me to use my IPad instead of IPhone to update Wiki which I never was successful with on the phone due to fat fingers.
I encourage all SJ supporters to add positive items to the main article.
On the redstorm sub page I added the following:

The basketball team is the most popular collegiate basketball program in New York City and has a world-wide following. There are numerous fan forums that support the basketball program, in addition to all of the university's teams. The most popular is redmen.com which often leads the mainstream sports media in breaking news regarding its sports teams.
