Why have the Lavin haters been so quiet lately?

Is it because of the awesome class or are they busy with something else...

I am not a lavin hater although I'm sure I have been labeled as such. I'm the first to admit that I haven't seen any of the kids who are coming in play. That being said, outside of a few homers who post here, I have not heard anyone suggest that our class is "awesome.".

I very much hope you're right and the class turns out to be special. Time will tell.

By the way, why does it say Ohio State Schedule, right above where it tells me that my statement has been posted? This is a St John's forum, is it not?

I don't see how anybody could construe this with anything but a very, very good class. Branch and Sanchez are 4-star guys and Jakarr is borderline 5-star. Balamou from everything I've seen lately is a real sleeper and excellent pickup. Great JC shooter in Bourgault. Maybe more to come. Very good class added to the several top 60 kids we already have on roster like Amir, Sir'Dom, D'Lo etc...

100% correct, there is nothing to discuss.

I've been following St.John's as a grad and season ticket holder for 35 years, I take all this recruiting with a grain of salt. While it seems Coach has put together a nice class again, I prefer to wait until we see the guys play college games to see how good they really are.

Over the years we've had players who were supposed to very good turn out to be not so good and players with not so high expectations turn into solid contributors. I am looking forward to November to see what the guys look like but believe we will not know really until end of December and January after they have some games under their belt.

As always I go into the season with the hope the team improves game by game and we can make the NCAA Tourney.

I think the fact that people are putting is as a borderline ncaa team in year 2 of the Lavin era even with all the setbacks speaks volumes about the recruits and staff. I agree though that it doesn't matter until they step on the court and play the games.

I agree, the staff has done wonders in putting the classes together. More importantly I think they are giving the fans hope!

Behavioral targeted ads. You will also find ads about other topics that are similar to St. John's and Basketball, etc....

Aahh, the voice of reason. Thanks. I for one am not aware of any Lavin haters other than fans of other teams. For sure though there are Lavin adorers who take umbrage with any questioning comments. Each to his own. Like you I prefer to wait till we see what we've got.

No one denies that our recruits have great potential and that the staff has already done wonders with the players they've worked with so there is every reason to be excited about what we are going to see out there on the court next year.

I don't disagree with this. We have all seen what we're returning though. Add kids like Sampson who I've seen and is excellent, Branch who has college experience and a host of other talents and I think we'll be real good. I feel that way because I've seen what our staff can do to get kids improving on the court and playing in SJU's schemes together. We won't be wanton for many things on the court this year like depth, athleticism and even have some shooting help off the bench.

I don't think this is Lavin's best class ever, but it is a fantastic class considering he was it all season recovering from cancer surgery. Half the Big East coaches would kill for a class like this one and Lavin had a lot of chips stacked against him.

The big key is how the new guys handle D1 ball? It's a big difference from HS and JC, that's why I will wait until end of DEC and Jan to to either temper or heighten my enthusiasm. Always look forward to seeing how the new guys will fair.

I can't look back at last year and say that anybody we recruited was disappointing overall except for Nuri. Even Nuri had big time ability to get to the hoop and if he had stuck and could have been a real good player. While I bet some will call Gift disappointing, I thought he played quite well overall for an undersized JC center in his first year of D1 ball. I have a lot of faith in this staff and their ability to bring in talent and develop it. I'm most curious ant Bourgault at this point because I've seen almost zero on him. Those grainy clips are useless.

I have no doubt that with our new found depth, Dunlap will have this team in sync by mid season. No depth issues to contend with this year should be fun.

The one thing I take issue with is the fact that people call this an excellent class with the asterisk of all the challenges the program has faced. To me it's either excellent or it's not. People toss that word around too loosely. Realistically it's a very good class. Everybody has something great to say about each kid coming in but I'll bet anything that some of the guys coming in will stink while others will be phenomenal. It's the nature of the game people don't like hearing it but an excellent class in terms of this year would have been Kyle Anderson, Gathers, Jakarr. Not tring to be negative just making the point that excellent is just not the right adjective to describe this class. Solid class to back up last year which was more fittingly an excellent class.

Fair enough! With inclusion of Chandler, I would rate the class "Very Good".

Haha agreed. Would love to have Chandler patrolling the paint.

Indont think any of these kids stink. Only one I cant say for sure is Bourgault as I haven't seen him, the rest are good players.
