Who went to lexington in 85 ?

I was just a poor student who piled into the Sly Fox to watch the game. But I do hope to have the in-person experience of watching our squad making a deep tournament run one of these years.

I don't think Red White existed then. It was booster club, I believe, which was made up mostly recent graduates who sat behind the SJU bench. I went to Lexington with about 20 friends, thanks to Dennis Myron setting aside tickets for those of us who were loyal to the team for many years and traveled frequently to away games.

I remember that a building with a second story showroom had mannequins of the SJU starters in uniform in full view from the street. It was pretty cool being there, especially Friday night, when fans from 4 schools all believed their team was going to win the national championship. Of course, from the initial jump ball, it all went downhill for SJU fans.

If the Mets only went with George Stone and Jerry Koosman on full rest, instead of Koosman and Seaver on short rest. IF France and Great Britain had provided aid to the South during the Civil War. If the US didn't join WW II....

If only we had faced Memphis state in the semis.
If only Louie had made any adjustments at all....it wasn’t exactly a secret as to what G’Town was going to do. It was the 4th time playing them that year.

If you recall the game down in DC in January where we beat them to ascend to number 1 in the nation we had an 18 point second half lead and hung on to beat them by one. They then proceeded to beat us the next 3 games that year by like 18 points per game so in the last 3 and a half games we played them they out scored us by about 72 points which is why i decided not to go. I had no confidence we were going to beat them in the Final 4.

I was there. Disappointed, like everyone was, that we never adjusted to Georgetown’s box and one on Mullin.

Their strategy was to gang up on Mullin and Berry and challenge anyone else to beat them. Wennington always held his own against Ewing but that's not to be confused with playing him even.

Agree with bama. Beating gtown in landover proved to be an aberration. The next 3 games were not really competitive. We didn't bring it to Georgetown the way Nova did, or even the way Pearl and Syracuse did.

Scrote.

I was there. Great experience and fond memories (except for the game of course).

Was there along with 7 fraternity buddies, driving down in an old Winnebago. We got lost on the way and arrived exhausted 3 minutes into the game. SJU was never in the game, pretty depressing experience.

One of my biggest regret, as a poor student I chose not to spend the money.

Which fraternity? (shudder to ask)

If you remember, there was a long line of fans who showed up to get tickets to the final four. I had to work and by the time I got there the line was very long. They sold out before I got close to the window. So many casual fans in front of me got tickets, including a fraternity brother (my little brother no less) whose inclination was to sell the ticket at a big profit rather than offer them to friends.

I am eternally grateful that Dennis Myron came to the rescue, telling our group that we had been loyal for years and he had set aside tickets for us. Considering it was our only trip to mecca since that time, glad I endured the horrible sinking defeat that dashed what was otherwise an incredible season.

Just caught the reference at the bottom of your message. LOL! Signature yelp from Kenny D. Funny, had drinks with him and Ed. Manetta this week. Also ran into your old buddy Dino a month or two ago. At the time, couldn’t recall where I knew him from but ran into him again last week and reminded him of our days playing pickup games at Alumni Hall after school.

Didn't go, I was a dope and I thought I'd have a bunch more chances.

My buddy went and had a great time, his stories about the bar at the hotel and all the players, coaches, sportswriters, etc., are great stories, apparently everything was small time back then, lots of mingling, not like it is now.

I regret not going, I have promised myself it they ever get there again, I AM GOING NO MATTER WHAT IS GOING ON.

I do have a good excuse for that Rupp Arena miss, my first daughter was born two days before.

if we had only matched up against Nova, we had their number all year.

Nova would never have beaten us, and if Nova played G Town in the finals 9 more times they would have lost them all. Those coke heads got lucky that night, shooting like WALTON. But all i say is Go ROLLIE! ("They were all such nice kids").
