Who starts at the 5 position?

We shall see what happens with Papa. We could potentially have all 3 of Sima, papa and Alibegovic at the 4/5. Still need to wait and see.

We will probably have to wait until the week before games start to really answer this question. Unfortunately!

If it's not Sima or Big Papa, I think it's Williams. Need to start our best five players at that point, and he's one of them.

With the current roster, assuming everyone is eligible, has to be Sima. Some scouts are very impressed with him and talk about NBA potential. His rebounding numbers have been impressive and he is 6'11. Nobody else on the current roster would even make sense.

We'll have to see who is eligible and who joins the roster by then. Sima will be a good one for us, but I don't want to see him on the court for more than 10-15 mpg. That's asking a lot from a true freshman big man.

Amar could certainly surprise a lot of people. He knows exactly what he has to do to improve and he knows what to expect unlike last season when he joined in the 11th hour. A lot of guys make big jumps from frosh to soph year and he is certainly a candidate as a guy that had to learn both the college game and the American game on the fly.

It's worth noting that he was really only an afterthought last year to the core veterans. This year he'll be getting first team attention in the offseason and in practice, plus his existence will likely be acknowledged inside the three-point line this season.

We still clearly need another big man to sign on whether that is Papa G or Band-Aid like the transfer from Pitt.

I agree with LJSA and Marillac.

Have to wait and see how everything shakes out, but option 1) is clearly Papa G.
After that the staff will likely go with the best 5, which could mean an undersized lineup including Williams and Jones or Ali B.

Sima will have a role, but he's not ready to be a 20mpg type of player as a freshman.

Why can't Sima play 20 plus minutes a game? All we need from him is interior defense and rebounding? We don't need any offense from him at all. By all accounts he's already a better rebounder then Obekpa was.

He's still very very raw. And rail thin.
Doubt he's a better rebounder on day 1 than Chris O.
Chris had 3 seasons banging in the Big East. He put on serious muscle. This is a tough league for a freshman big man.

Agree, he needs a lot of physical conditioning & skill refinement. That said, he has great potential & could give us modest time this season. Very rarely do freshmen step right in & play 20 minutes in the post, unless out of necessity. I will be patient about Sima, but am very optimistic about his long term development.

I would say it's the hardest position to take on for a freshman, especially in the Big East. If we're fortunate enough to land Big Papa, it would take him some time to adjust as well. He has the height, build and skillset, but it would still take a bit of time to get acclimated to the physical play in the box. Sima has a longer path to travel, but I think he will be a meaningful contributor in Feb and March.

Remember how awful Chris was a freshman? It gets lost with the blocked shots, but if he didn't block the shot he let up easy layup after easy layup. Sima shows great potential, and I promise you that NBA scouts have him on the radar with his size, length, excellent mobility in the half court, and rebounding prowess, but he's rail thin and he has a lot to learn. Freshmen should be given the luxury to learn and play as their development warrants. Playing too much too soon is a recipe for developing some really bad habits (see 2011 recruiting class) that could take years to shake.

I guess the good news is that the conference shed some big-time talent up front: Josh Smith, Matt Stainbrook, Carson Deroziers, Kameron Woods, and Paschal Chukwu.
