When a loss is a win

Sometimes you lose but there is a lot of good to take out of it. Gaints vs New England before they won the super bowl that season. Giants vs Green Bay this year.

A bunch of freshman and 2 juniors went down to Cameron getting 18 points and got hammered in foul calls early and often. Down 16 at half they got it down to 4 with less than a minute left.

Moe was a stud and Harrison had a great 2nd half.

Most important thing is these kids didn't mail it in and give up. I hate Duke more than anything and it kills me when we lose to them.

But I am so proud of our kids today for not backing down and giving it all they had.

Today isn't a bad day. Big things on the horizon for our kids

I'm not one for moral victories, but if you watched that second half, and are not optomistic about the future of this program, then I don't know what to tell you.

Agreed on all accounts, great thread. I have never been this excited about a loss, and I hate Duke, but the future is so bright. Now if I could just get tix for Saturday.....

+1,000,000!!! The ultimate compliment: I just received a call from my little sis (a Dookie). I expect the usual bragging. Instead, I heard..."I wouldn't want to play you guys in future years". Very cool!!!

Yea, I don't really get caught up with rationalizing a moral victory but this was one to cherish I guess. Hope Harkless plays THIS aggressive for the rest of his career.

This team is special.....they make us proud and the job the coaching staff has done bringing them along is incredible. These kids are growing up right in front of our eyes. You gotta love them.

Great post mj, could not agree with you more.

Amazing job by the staff. Look at Harkless' expressions at the buzzer. The kid had Harrison's heart out there and we saw it today for the first time ever. Mo is breaking out of his shell and showing that heart. It separates a good player from the great player he is becoming. Love to see at passion.

You could tell from the expression on ratface he wasn't happy with seeing his precious little dookies giving up a 22 pt. lead. A few more made fts and this would have been real interesting, and he knew it.

Tremendous effort by all. It has to be a bit frustrating for them. With this kind of desire, look for an exceptional future for this team with the addition of a couple of bigs. Great job.

The title of the thread says it all! Were it not for homer calls against us in the first half we would have played more aggressive and that was the difference.

Amen.

Hope we show this kinda performance next Saturday at our place. That would be a nice time to have the next "breakthrough" moment...

Nice post MJ. We are all so proud of these guys today. Giving up so much size on the boards it is amazing that we were able to make this game close. We exposed a large Duke weakness today...showing that they are not that quick, and have some ball handling inadequacies. I was a little concerned during the Marquette game, where I thought they quit during the second half. But in view of the West Virgina game, and today's solid and total effort...who could not be pleased? I would also like to single out Phil Green, who is not a point guard, but who has come on to do a whale of a job at that position. I was down on him earlier in the season (erroneously forgetting that he is just a freshman)...but this kid has real potential. In half of the season, he has improved his handle immensely. Duke puts a lot of external pressure on the ball, and he held up quite well. He had a single turnover against WV in heavy minutes. If his shot continues to improve, as well as his passing ability, he may hold up quite well as our point guard for the foreseeable future.

And missing so many free throws and three pointers. Great effort.

all the best

PS imagine what we will do to Duke ext year at home with another good recruiting class??? (assuming we play them)

A shame one of the bigs didn't qualify, even Dickie boy had to omit one big man and SJU would have runaway with the game

Actually, Mussberger also said, "If we had a 6'11" player we would have beaten Duke today."

"admit"

what a great game - I still do not see us winning many more games BUT the season under the circumstances all is fine and the future continues bright; also what terrific publicity we continue to receive - how the kids are talented and working hard; how Coach Lavin is out there dealing with the bet prospects etc.

all the best

So proud of our guys. We were never intimidated today at Cameron, playing our hearts out. So proud, so proud. Still early, but if we continue to improve each game, I wouldn't want to play against us in the Big East Tournament.
