Going to the St. John's University in Minnesota sports website finds it listed as gojohnnies.com

The bookstore has sports apparel with the SJU and Johnnies logo on caps and shirts.

This appears to be another case where we were robbed of our identity. Why didn't St. Josephs in Philly come down on them?

WE WILL ALWAYS BE SJU AND REDMEN

I think that, outside of Minnesota, if you asked where St. John's Univeristy was located, 10 out of 10 would NOT say Minnesota. LOL!
SJU in Minny is a small men's college that plays in Division Irrelevant.
There are plenty of Tigers out there but most people think of Missouri and not the other schools.

These comments were all well and good but nobody answered the question as to why St. Josephs in Philly didn't protect their so called logo.

I'm going to start a petition for us to stop using the name Johnnies. I know I'll be the only one signing lol. Go St. John's, Go Redmen.

Infringement depends on the type of use and the market. It's not a red line. One of the many tests would be to ask yourself would their customers/audience be confused?
I'm not saying St Josephs couldn't enforce it, but the fact that they're a DIII school in Minnesota is relevant.

Not true, especially out west. I've lived in Nevada and presently in Arizona and everyone that sees my St. John's apparel thinks it is from Minnesota.

BTW, the St. John's Baseball team is using Rawlings to market a replica of the 1986 Mets Jersey with a script St.John's across the front of the jersey. Cost: $60.

Jack, with all due respect, I have been all over this country and no one I have ever met has ever mentioned a St. John's in Minnesota when talking basketball-----ever!
Your world in Nevada and Arizona must be populated by many snowbirds from Minnesota! LOL!
A worthier argument would be discussing USC. In South Carolina, fans think the University of South Carolina. In the rest of the country, people would think of Southern Cal. The argument could be made as to what comes first----the gamecock or the TROJAN?

Very clever, '72. Your post reminded me of the last time my wife and I were in Florida last year and she spotted a young woman wearing shorts with an arched "COCKS" spread across her backside. My wife found it repulsive until I explained it to her. Afterwards she said "Who would give their team such a stupid name?".

pretty sure that most people, even in their own conference, would think of LSU before Missouri for the Tigers mascot.
