I know that some on here don't care about what other schools (conference or not) say about us, but sometimes it can be good barometer as to where we stand in the grand scheme of things. That said, I decided to look at the message boards of 4 schools that have either a connection to St. John's and or our new staff to see what's being said about us. The schools were Syracuse, UConn, Seton Hall & Pitt. Not surprisingly, all of them had a thread either about St. John's or about Slice's hiring. Yes there are detractors and doubters (Syracuse and Pitt with the most). I'm not going to post the links to those boards but below, are some snippets:
From the Syracuse board:
Huge win for SJU. Slice is a great recruiter with top AAU connections.
This could hurt SU in the long run, Slice will own NY/NJ
I fully expect Cheick to be going there now.
From the Seton Hall board:
Another good hire for Mullin and SJU.
Looks like StJ is going to have NYC on lock
Mullin has put together in a very short time probably the best recruiting staff of assistants in the conference.
From the UConn board:
Wow. This is huge.
What a staff Mullin has put together
Chris hired two assistants who could have helped us recruit.
From the Pitt board:
I really think SJU is going to be very very good.
I have the same feeling about St. John's, going to be good.
I think they're going to get players. If Mullin can coach at all, they'll be pretty good
