Todays game was a good indicator of where the SJU program stands. There have been many instances of failure in the past 30 years but today the team quit which means a half season of embarrassment to go.
All of the coaches named as possible successors are good coaches but history should tell us they will have no more success than Lavin, Mullin , Anderson etc because the program is in worse condition than when Lavin took over. College basketball fans now have to be in their mid thirties to have witnessed any sustained SJU success.
I don’t know where the buyout payoff can come from but if Father Shanley is unwilling to hire Pitino or is unable to sign him nothing will change.

Doesn't matter who the president and AD are, they always seem like the gang that couldn't shoot straight. And sorry, I ain't buying the "we're poor" nonsense. I disagree. The team did not quit. Criticize them justifiably for many things, but not quitting.

Do you need to see them standing still on the court with their hands on their hips to know when they quit? Lack of effort resulting in wide open 3s and wide open layups last few games are enough to indicate lack of effort which equates to quitting for most people.

Yeah, they've pretty much played like crap for most of the season. Today was just another crap game.

CMA has sucked. You telling we couldn't have done any better then a coach who's sucked??? A botched search does not identify and hire the best candidate. And everyone knows it was a botched search

I would say that it's a combination of a lack of effort, and the fact that they have seemed to stop listening(to CMA). Anyway you slice it, it's a bad situation.

Your statement wasn’t if we could’ve done better. You said much better. I don’t think any of the candidates that applied could have done much better. Maybe better but no sure thing.

Now if you want to change your comment to possibly find a cheaper option to do the same as CMA, then I would agree 100%. But even then we would be in the same boat.

Think about the fact that NONE of the coaches we have hired since Lou were ever hired by a major school after they left.
This trend will continue with Anderson.
