What we need.

It looks like we really need a point guard and here is hoping Jamal is the answer this year. Do you think we will ever play man to man so we can avoid short little guys taking wide open shots and killing us.

Any thoughts?

What's the story with Jamal? I haven't heard anything about him. I've kind of been out of the loop and I'm curious. We do need him badly.

I believe he's coming back for the UNC-Asheville game on the 21st

That'll be correct. He's actually eligible the day after we play St. Francis.

What we need is to stick a guy in left corner on defense, we seem to forget that's part of the court.

Lets stick him in the corner and then let the guy on the wing be open ;)

What we really need are the damn grey jerseys to be debuted. Anyone know when that will be? Maybe it comes out for Big East play?

Yea thats the ticket.

Maybe Coach sees our guys clank threes so much in practice, he honestly believes it's a near impossible shot to make. Many posters can't figure out why every team gets hot from 3 against us. Perhaps it's because when you shoot 20 foot jumpers a thousand times a day since you were 15, it becomes a doable task. When you focus on youtube highlight reel dunks since you were 15, then hitting a three point jumper seems difficult.

What we need is Branch, Sanchez and more experience. Two of those we are going to get. The third could be a game changer.

Things seem to be coming together but slower than expected, we finally wont the rebound battle against a very good rebounding team, i believe perimeter defense is next, as long as it comes together before conference play we should be fine.

branch and sanchez will not be the saviors but are needed and will help.

What? How is it progress if we finally rebound but play no defense?
If next game we hit all our foul shots but turn the ball over 20 times will we be even further down the road toward being a complete team? Of course not.

What we need to do IMHO is stop all the switching and pressuring 45 ft from the hoop.....I would live to see a 2-3 aggressive zone with all our length, speed and athletes!!! Leave obepka in the middle and stop getting killed off the bounce..... Who's with me?

I agree 100%. If Obepka stayed and in the middle of our zone and didn't move I don't see anybody driving to the hoop without him not getting in their face. Branch will help Marco spot up and shot a 3 with dribble drives and kick outs. If Branch can get him going I expect to see Marco on the court more with Harrison, Branch, Sampson, and Obepka but thats just who I would end the game with if everyone was at the top of his game.

Ding ding ding, we have a winner!

So we go from people hoping to see 40 minutes of hell to sitting back in a zone. We didn't play our best game and we lost to a good team on the road, that's all.

no that is not it!! we clearly are having problem with the defensive side of the balls...... we are absolutley getting killed 40 feet from the basket by olpponents we should be turning the screws to, its not very hard to see that at all!! i was embarassed the last two games watching us get torched and really having no answers at all...... bottom line is we miss dunlap ALOT!!!!

Yes said the same thing must play a better zone coverage Look at cuse That would solve the open 3s It would also stop the small talented guards from blowing past our big guards I really feel Jarmal will do wonders for us in both penetrating and dishing to the open man If we can hit an open shot will help our offense He also plays good D but Sanchez is the key to success
How many feel he will never wear a SJU uniform?

I don't have a problem with pressing full court ocassionally---or even after every made basket---but once they get the ball across and we start defending innthe half court, it doesn't make sense to defend a guy 40 feet from the basket. Let him have that shot if he wants to take it. Defend at the 3 pt circle and inside. Stop switching and having your center guarding their pg outside while your guard is trying to defend their big down low.

Also, all 5 guys should not collapse on the man driving to the basket. If CO or Jakarr are down there, let them help the guy driving inside. Everyone else should stay with their man on the perimeter, ready to defend/deny the kickout and box out if the shot goes up.

You clearly know very little about basketball. Most teams that apply serious pressure fall back into a zone of some sort--usually a 2-3-- because it's easy to get back to an area than finding a man. We also run a zone right now. Not every zone has to be a 2-3.
