What I'll Never Understand

Can someone explain to me why Keady has not helped Lavin set up an offensive game. When I first heard of his hiring I thought here is an excellent coach one with a 550 - 289 record over 27 years of coaching. Certainly he didn't get this success with a weave outside or a pick between the top of the key and halfcourt. I realize at first he couldn't do any bench coaching due to his position. But please do not tell me after these past seasons he hasn't offered his help. He wasn't hired to keep Lavin company at their favorite restaurants. Or was he?

Forget it. It's never going to change with Lavin. We are not going to have an offense and we will continue to bail opposing coaches out by interrupting our own runs with timeouts. The countless other illogical nonsense will continue as well.

In fairness most of the games are well past Keady's bedtime

Honestly, Jack, you are only commenting based on results. Keady diligently takes notes during the games, and in my couple of discussions with him, he reviews this with Steve and other coaches.I know that Keady knows his place, and does not force his opinions on anyone. He is just there to help Steve where needed, which i guess is the role of special advisor he plays.

Bottom line to me is that while a great game coach could have had these guys playing better basketball, our guys all had talent limitations. Each of them improved, but we really never had a strong sense that our offense moved with precision. In most games our opponents moved the ball better, at least it appeared that way.

What I'll never understand is, that at 1:00 AM EST, there are

Total users online: 275 Members and 62072 Guests Online

and we can't fill MSG for a Big East contest.

If 62,000 people can't make the effort to sign on, what makes you think they would come out to a game. :p

It's only march but post of the year

I remember in the beginning Keady saying we need to shoot high % shots to be effective....thus we ended up a jump shooting team and lost.

My sense was that Keith Thomas, ADR recruitment was sign Lavin was in fact listening to Keady and then that got blown up by academics. My memory of Keady's teams is that there was always a frontcourt player setting picks of such quality close to the baseline corners that whoever he had as the star frontcourt scorer thrived. The picker needed strength, quick feet, good hands, and an awareness of what the scorer was going to do next. Example I remember best was I think Brian Cardinal at Purdue. Only hope we had this year of doing this kind of forward and forward game disappeared without KT and ADR. SirDom not yet enough outside game, Amar not ready (although there is hope) and Chris Jones not developing in to the possible picker / rebounder / putback specialist we needed. If ADR comes back eligible and in shape I think we might see Keady input become more evident.

He should have added that you need to shoot well to be a high percentage shooting team.

We really need to let the Keith Thomas thing go. It's just another excuse.

Agree totally, Johnny. But you know this board. We have to repeat everything over and over again, even if it means starting a new thread! ;)

So, no more harping on the lack of recruits in 2014? I'm all for it.

That's not as easy. I am afraid we'll all be reminded of it throughout next season, just as the impact affected this year.

So we can talk about the 2014 recruits. We just can't mention their names? We can mention the one that didn't qualify, but sit on our bench, just not the one tha didn't qualify and had to the school. Confusing.

I guess I am just tired of hearing "If Keith Thomas had been cleared.........".

It's one of the many, many excuses made for this coach.

Considering the mess that George Bush left Lavin with, he is still working through that.
