Johnnies played #2 Michigan in 1964 Holiday Final .I was attending Brooklyn night UC at the time
and was able to purchase a bunch of student tickets ( 10 ) for the Festival games . Michigan had defeated
Princeton led by Bill Bradley who put on an incredible semi final game . Left to a huge standing ovation.
Johnny team included Kenny and Bobby McIntire , Sonny Dove , Jerry Houston and a baseball pitcher from
Bryant HS. Johnnies came back from a 15 pt deficit with less than 5 minutes to eke out a win . Some claim it was with the
help of the ever tanned ref Steve Honzo from Latrobe Pa.

Was not at that game, I do believe St. John's played Michigan at the Nassau Coliseum, I was at that game Don't remember the year

I remember St. John's going to Michigan on Super Bowl Sunday 1995 and beating what was left of the Fab 5 - Jimmy King and Ray Jackson.

This was Felipe's much-hyped freshman season and you could sense major problems with this team.

This was the best win of a forgettable season.

Sr. James Scott came up big.

Yes, was one of the first, if not the first, St. John's games I ever attended (I was 12); also went to a few at Alumni Hall that year but can't remember if they were before or after this classic!

I was there (to see Bill Bradley) but stayed for the "other" semi since I was transferring to St. John's in January. Came back for the final and really became an SJU fan that day. What an atmosphere.

i was there for the mich/SJU 1964 holiday festival at the old msg.
i was a high school senior and then spent the next 4 years at rose hill.
because of that 64/65 SJU team, i became a life long johnnie fan. ram second.
always admired sonny dove.
wolverine bill buntin impressed me.
i remember it as a triple header. could be wrong about that.

I was there. It was my freshman year and it was the first year I started to follow SJU.

On the elevator back up to our rooms, Coach LoBalbo turned to Coaches Mahoney and Rutledge and said ‘how the hell did we beat them today?” Needless to say, we had a hell of post game dinner that night!

You have it right; I loved the Holiday Tournament and NIT back then. With a High School GO card, I got in for 50 cents and enjoyed many hours of college basketball as thye also played a 5th place game. The SJU/Mich final was an incredible game and I don't think my heart could take one like it next week. In addition, getting to see Bradley play for Princeton was special--he almost beat Mich and believe he was tournament MVP. They don't make in season tournaments like that anymore. (PS-I ended up for undergraduate 4 years in Riverdale so we were probably at some games on opposite sides of the Garden. SJU was for grad school)

We played them in 2000. Beat the 97-83 in consolation of Washington DC tournament.

Wow, I had completely forgotten about that game. I do however, not so fondly remember George Washington guard Sir'Valiant Brown (30+ points) tearing us a new one en route to sending us to that consolation game. Feels like eons ago...

those were the days. bitter, bitter true rivalry. rams/jaspers. fans actually went to the games.
freshman year at rose hill. a former hs classmate, now at manhattan, calls me up, fpr me to see jaspers live in riverdale.
he strongly tells me to not wear fordham garb. i went to game in yankee outfits.
freshman year. rams/jaspers at old garden. I get out at the "wrong" subway exit in a fordham jacket.
it was the spot where the jaspers hung out before the game. a huge, huge roar happens. I ran back into subway.
rose hill. army. mba SJU. SJU 27 year season ticket holder. florida....... rose hill - maybe once a year.

Buntin went into SJ locker room to congratulate Johnnies on their win. Classy

I remember one jasper/ram game at old Garden. Drinking started at campus bars in early afternoon and then the train migration from Riverdale south to Columbus Circle where Jaspers were meeting up for a "March" to the Garden that went into 8th Avenue and then marched into Garden. Daily News referred to it as an "old Fashioned" MC/FU game without the Sugar as the court was his with snowball (the ice), an orange, and a whiskey bottle. NYU was also part of the rivalry in those days for both schools while SJU was focused on NYU/FU but not MC. I started going to SJU games while in grad school and could use student ID card to get in cheap at New Garden. we've had season's 44 years, very easy to do when you have a wife who is an SJU grad and loves college Bball.

You are correct. The final night of the old Holiday Festival was a tripleheader,
