Weak out of conference schedule for 2012-2013

With our schedule finalized see below link, can somone please explain why our out of conference schedule is so weak,
the only BCS team I see on our schedule is South Carolina on November 29th

Also maybe we play Auburn on 11/16, if we survive against the College of Charleston why is the schedule is so weak what happened to Duke, UCLA etc.?

Duke is on hiatus because, with 18 ACC games now, their slate was already full for this year. It may return in the future. UCLA was a 2-year agreement not renewed.

Also, if we win the first game in Charleston, Murray State will more then likley be the opponent. They may have the nation's best point guard in Cannon. Don't sleep on Detriot either, because McCallum is still there.

It's not a great non-conference schedule, I agree, but it's nowhere near as bad as the one Rutgers is playing.

I have no problem with the schedule, especially considering all the new faces.

I wish last year's team would have had this setup. They could have maybe won 20 games.

Your post says it all Della.
The schedule reflects who we are and where we hope to go, win baby win.

The schedule was set up keeping in mind that we have a very young team that will hopefully gain confidence going into the Big East games. The team needs to build momentum in the beginning of the year. Also as was pointed out earlier, there are some good teams that we will be playing.

From a business and fan perspective would love to see a marquee program like UNC, Kansas, Kentucky, Duke, UCLA, Michigan State
play SJU on a year to year basis, feels like a big void minus Duke this year, I wonder if we will lose Duke forever with the ACC expansion.

This schedule does not help our RPI IMO.

i couldn't agree more! we have a real chance to be 12-0...

I have no problem with the schedule this particular year. Next year I'd expect it to be like what it was last year or close to it

It will only really hurt the RPI if they lose. Once they get to Big East play, every game will bring it up regardless of the outcome.

And I think people will be surprised at the RPI of some of the opponents.

Della that is the problem we can not afford a loss to a non-bcs conference opponent, Charleston on the road and Detroit at home are must wins, if we are a slighlty
above average BE team with the NCAA tourney as our goal.

We all know what the Fordham loss did to our RPI a couple of years back fortunately we had three marquee home wins(duke, pitt and Uconn)  that offset that.
