Of course negativity isn't accepted on a day the team lost three top 100 players...it sucks. Care to spin it positively? Alright gotchya.

Negativity is ok.. predicting the demise of our head coach because of this news.. not so much.

Well yeah that's insane. But there's no way to spin today's news...it's not good.

I know you were going for the We are...St. John's thing but it's not really we are the most idiotic fans it's more like a small group of people jumping off a bridge. I myself am very nervous about this year, if they get smacked around it won't bode well for future recruiting and without these three in the rough and tumble BE....not good

Yeah its a bad day. Yeah you can't spin it any other way than its a big disappointment.
But its not the end of the world and it seems worse than it is because we were going to be short handed anyway this season.
I hope these kids can get cleared for 2nd semester. If not, I'm glad Lavin has 3 more ships to offer for next year. At the end of the day he'll bring in excellent players and as a side benefit we'll have our scholarship distribution squared away, even if its not the way we wanted it to happen.
Bad day...yeah.
But tomorrow is a new day.
Does it suck for this year yes it does, our number of losses just went up.
On a positive note Coach has already recruited two very good players for next season who will immediately add to our depth. He may have three more ships to award for next season and there are many very talented players he can get who we only would have dreamed of getting 18 months ago like Amile Jefferson and Christopher Obepka etc, whose recruitment has been put on hold while we pursue Ka.
Our scholarship distribution will work itself out almost overnight if the staff decides to go the Juco route and then we can be a program that recruits 3-4 top 100 players on an annual basis.
Short term pain no doubt but clearly long term gain.
In addition to kranmars original post , which I agree entirely with, all I can say is if some of you think this is bad recruiting by Coach Lavin what would you have said in 1985 when coming off a final four appearance where your team was loosing 4 key players including 3 starters your coach brought in a great recruiting class consisting of Marco Baldi.
As if that wasn't enough, in 1986 after finishing once again number 3 in the polls and winning the BE Championship your coach followed up on the great 1985 recruiting class with top 100 forward Moses Scurry, who never made it to campus because of academics, top 100 forward Jayson Williams who had to sit an entire year because of academics, top 50 guard Elander Lewis who transferred after his freshman season and top 50 guard Marcus Broadnax who transferred mid-way through his freshman season.
So of the 4 players recruited only 3 made it to campus, only 2 could play their first season. and only 1 player was left after their first season.
Thank g-d there was no internet then as I could not imagine what our brilliant fan base would have to say.
Bottom line is that this six man class is the best class recruited to SJU by far since I have been following the program in 1981 and perhaps ever.

Time to put away my red hats for awhile. Damn!

Did you have the red hats the previous six years under Norm Roberts? Let's get real here! We were not going to win the Big East with all new young players! You may not like to hear this but Norm Roberts left SJ with a HUGE rebuilding project by strategically recruiting players that ALL left when the door slammed on his tenure. To have NINE scholarships on a D1 team spells REBUILD ASAP in all CAPS! Lav delivered on the recruiting end and if the stars all aligned SJ will be 8 deep by January 1, 2012. Being 8 deep with 4 top 100 players is something SJ never had under Roberts. Roberts was given 6 years to rebuild ----- he Failed! By YEAR THREE Steve Lavin will have a national contender------hope you still have the red hats by then!![]()
