@Villanova, Wed., Feb. 12 , 6p, FS-1

Since Knight is still celebrating the U Conn win and patience is not my strong suit, time to turn our attention to Nova. Knight can fill in the deets when he gets out of the drunk tank or Storrs or wherever he is.
Harsh LMF but you may be in to something:

The ESPN matchup predictor is 53/47 SJU which is either surprising respect for Nova or surprising disrespect for SJU. I do except to get Nova's A game but I don't think they have enough to beat us unless we treat them as the dreaded trap game.

On the road - never easy to win.

Nova has an elite player in Dixon. Surrounded by some good parts and guys who can shoot the 3.

They get hot from 3, a pro-Dixon whistle, and of course we can lose down there.

I’ve adopted this teams mantra. Not too high. Not too low. One at a time.

Nova has Xavier at home tomorrow in huge game for both teams. I think if Nova drops the game to Xavier they’ll come into our game pretty discouraged.
Agree and big edge on that to me goes to Miller in coaching department. That obviously holds true w Rick v Neptune, so take them seriously and handle business in a less than raucous arena. Suspect Ed Dixon is limbering up to take 50 shots as part of his Euro pro contact audition.

Villanova needs to go 2-0 their next 2 to be in any bubble talk. Nova/X has to be pretty close to an elimination game. X doesn’t have a ton Q1/2 games left and nova needs to string quite a few together.

100%. Nova has balance and talent but it rarely comes together for them this year. Brickus is an elite shooter, Dixon is a 9th year stud, and Longino and Poplar are solid pieces that can rise up at any moment. Even if all 4 players are having a great game, we can expose their shallow bench - wear down the starters, foul trouble, etc.

If there is a such thing as a "trap game", this would be it.
EXACTLY. It is the true full definition of a trap game. Coming off a big win (in this case 2 big wins) playing an inferior opponent with the next game being another big one in a first place battle with Creighton. So many times games are called trap games missing one or more elements of what a trap game truly is.

Similar with our @Georgetown game, I’m thankful to have already played Nova and be genuinely very challenged against them. Our guys are mature, and Pitino’s been there before, but it also helps to have real life experience against the opponent & see that it wasn’t easy. It’s also why I’m not worried about @Butler
