Letter from Father Peter. No matter the circumstance it is very classy of him to make the announcement.
Dear Members of the Villanova Community,
After nearly a decade of service to our institution, our Vice President and Director of Athletics Mark Jackson will be leaving Villanova to accept the position of Vice President for Athletics and Recreation at Northwestern University. While we are sad to see Mark leave, we wish him and his family all the best in this new opportunity.
Since arriving on the Main Line in 2015, Mark has been a tremendous leader and innovator, partner and friend to so many at Villanova, helping elevate our Department of Athletics to unprecedented heights. During his tenure, we won national and conference championships, set academic records, increased Villanova Athletics’ service to our community and experienced significant fundraising success. Most of all, Mark aligned with our Augustinian values and worked to fulfill our mission each and every day. I know you join me in wishing Mark and his family the very best in their journey.
As for what comes next, Villanova Athletics is one of the nation’s premier athletics programs, with talented student-athletes, wonderful coaches and staff and incredibly passionate fans and supporters. We have strong momentum to carry us into a new era of intercollegiate athletics, one that continues to evolve. I am confident that Villanova Athletics will continue to thrive and do its part to lift up our University.
I will work with the Board of Trustees and University leadership in the days ahead to determine a transition plan, to identify an interim Director of Athletics and to map out a plan for a national search to fill the position. During this period, we will keep our focus on where it has always been—our student-athletes.
Sincerely,
Rev. Peter M. Donohue, OSA
