Tobin Strengthens Marketing Analytics, Economics, and Entrepreneurship with New Faculty

As we celebrate the 20th anniversary of the renaming of the College of Business Administration in honor of Peter J. Tobin, we are pleased to announce the addition of four new scholars to strengthen our growing programs in Marketing Analytics, Economics, and Entrepreneurship.

These scholars add to our current pool of talented faculty and will continue to support our #50 undergraduate business program (Poets&Quants) and our new M.S. in Business Analytics and M.S. in Entrepreneurship and Innovation.

Our new Tobin faculty are: Dr. Alex Berman, Assistant Professor of Management; Dr. Alex Bouye, Associate Professor of Marketing; Tracey Freiberg, Visiting Professor of Economics; and Dr. Deon Gibson, Visiting Professor of Economics.

Assistant Professor of Marketing Alex Berman earned a B.S. from Cornell University, an M.B.A. from Boston University, and a Ph.D. from Temple University. Prior to joining academia, Dr. Berman spent more than 10 years in the asset management industry, working as a member of portfolio management teams at Goldman Sachs and at Barings. Dr. Berman is also a founder of BAIS Enterprise, a Registered Investment Advisory firm in New York. Dr. Berman studies entrepreneurship and innovation with a focus on context-specific processes. His research examines the roles of government policy and technological innovation in the formation and sustainability of firms. He also evaluates how linguistic, cultural, and geographic contexts relate to global innovation outcomes.

Associate Professor of Marketing Alex Buoye conducts research focused on customer satisfaction and its relationship to loyalty and firm performance. Dr. Bouye is the former head of Loyalty Analytics and senior vice president at Ipsos Loyalty. Prior to joining the St. John’s faculty, he taught at Fordham University. Dr. Buoye earned his Ph.D. in sociology and his B.B.A. in marketing from the University of Notre Dame. His research has appeared in journals such as Harvard Business Review, MIT Sloan Management Review, Journal of Service Research, Journal of Service Management, Journal of Business Research, Journal of Interactive Marketing, and Journal of Services Marketing. Dr. Bouye will be teachng courses in service marketing and marketing analytics

Visiting Professor of Economics Tracey Freiberg is a Ph.D. candidate in the Milano School of Policy, Management, and Environment at The New School. Professor Freiberg earned an M.A. in economics from Duke University and a B.A. in economics and business administration from Coe College. Her research focuses on labor economics and policy, specifically the economic and social outcomes of paid leave policies. Before entering academia, Professor Freiberg spent more than a decade in insurance, financial services, and consulting, mostly at American International Group, where she worked as a business analyst and as a senior underwriter.

Visiting Professor of Economics Deon Gibson is a political economist with research interests in worker bargaining power, race and class conflict, and the role of government in different economic systems. He has taught at multiple universities for more than 12 years and his teaching interests include microeconomics, labor economics, and comparative political economy. Dr. Gibson earned his B.Sc. in economics from the University of the West Indies, his M.A. in economic analysis from Brooklyn College/CUNY, and his M.S. and Ph.D. in economics from The New School.
