On the 50th Anniversary. Occurred yesterday afternoon, before and during the game vs. Villanova. This squad was the first-ever team at St John's after moving from club status in prior years.

Ed Kull and Kathy Meehan spoke eloquently during the reception and luncheon. Coach Tartamella and Father Shanley were present as well. Coach Vicky Kresse spoke about the team as well, being sure to point out who from that team was present.

My wife and I were fortunate to be present as guests of Dorothy "Dottie" Giordano Pace, and her husband, Frank (we also reside in the same community in Venice , FL). Dottie was the first women's scholarship player at St. John’s, and a member of the school's Hall of Fame.

One last note. While in the luncheon, I look around and who do I see but our own Sterling!! Went over to say hello. Mentioned me being Delaware. I introduced him to my wife, and he was as cordial and warm as could be expected.

A really great afternoon and just another indication of the wonderful Community that St. John's is for so many of us.

The real pioneers of SJU women's basketball were non-scholarship women who played for a non-NCAA "club" team that was the forerunner of our women's varsity basketball team. They have never been invited back to the school to patriciate in these old timers' programs
