I know Im gonna hear all the rants how im crazy and we hate them, we hate their fans, coach, etc.....but the reality is they are a GREAT basketball program who can and will compete with anyone. It also gives us another formidable opponent. I understand that they wanted out of our old league like their pants were on fire, yes, and I know they would LOVE to be in the ACC, but thats not happening. We should lock them up if we are considering expanding two additional teams. We should also make the exit fee and/or conditions so undesirable that they would never leave. Thoughts ? We need another stud team going forward. The ACC is trying to move in on the east, UConn still has a great eastcoast fanbase.

Ship has sailed on the Big East entertaining any FBS (of which UConn is one) schools . Drop the football program from the FBS status, then they would get a serious look, but I don't see them doing that so this is a dead issue. Big East had to go down that road once before and it worked for awhile but eventually was part of the reason for the break-up. It is not a path they will take again.

If the AAC dissolves, or appears headed to permanent mid major status, I can see UConn, Temple and others looking to bolt. Louisville is gone. Cincy I predict could likely get a B-12 invite.
Temple and Memphis are never going to get BCS conference invites, so if the AAC dies, they are a safe bet to bring aboard. They can play their football in whatever regional minor conference. UConn however might be a bigger threat to leave someday. But what they would bring to the new BE during this very critical period is worth it, even if we have them for just a few years.

Agree, would be great to have them in the league ... provided that there would never again be football issues. I do think that at some point the league may be in a position to pick up some good basketball schools who decide that realistically they are never going to be invited to the BCS party. Just hope it is sooner rather than later.

UCONN is a big state school with a huge basketball budget. They are not even remotely close to looking like the teams currently in the Big East.

Really agree here LFM. Without complete knowledge of the specifics - I'm sure both schools have put an incredible amount of money into their football programs such that just walking away won't be easy - UConn and Memphis jump off the page as candidates for what you are talking about. Just those two schools alone would do wonders for the profile of the conference, no matter what one happens to think about the current state of that profile.

Frankly, I would love having UCONN back in the BE if they could somehow settle the football dilemma. After all they were one of the original founding schools back in the early days of the league. I think the addition of UCONN and possibly Memphis would put the league over the top!

The best thing for the Big East is for the current members to go out and win, both against big time non-conference competition and in the NCAA. If we start getting teams to the Elite 8 and Final Four, no one will be concerned about whether we have UConn. We have schools that can do it. Marquette, Georgetown Butler & Villanova have all been to the Final Four within the last 10 - 12 years give or take. I know some of those schools have had coaching changes since then but the bottom line is take care of business on the court with the teams we currently have & the league will be fine.

Would love to have them in the BE. But , They re also a FB school and I don't think they want to downgrade their FB program, they put a lot of money. into it.

I agree. I would rather the BE be totally comprised of catholic/private schools. That and uconn can go f*ck themselves.

The big money in college athletics is football driven
Therefore, decisions about conference membership is all about opportunities to increase your football revenue
There is no way that UConn would have any interest in joining the Big East Conference

i know for a fact that uconn does not want to go to the bigeast. their athletic department plans to expand the football stadium to 50,000 trying to lure the ACC or the BIG10.

Not sure why the ACC wouldn't want them. They have plenty of bad football teams already and UCONN and Syracuse would give them two teams that can help fill their tournament at the Barclays Center.

A school w great BB and w minor or no FB is what we need, I would not rule out VCU because they are a state school and is not a catholic institution.

Memphis will be ready to drop football soon. Perhaps that could persuade Uconn to do the same as a package deal in a few years.

they could barely fill stadium half that size. good god they are idiots

I wish they would join the BE for basketball but I heard they are throwing a lot of money into football. I did not realize they want to build a 50,000 seat stadium....that's crazy

Agree its crazy. I'd love Uconn and Memphis in this league if they dropped BCS football which they barely are anyway. Memphis probably is closer to it than Uconn. I'd take either one.

Don't be so sure that Temple or Memphis will never get a BCS conference invite. Especially Temple. Lots of factors influence decisions, and things constantly change. Temple is located in one of America's most populated cities. If you think location means nothing, why is Rutgers joining the Big 10? Their sports history is a joke, and they're a public relations nightmare. Temple is expanding the campus, and expects to have 16,000-18,000 students living on campus within a few years. Location wise, they would give the ACC a member in between Washington DC & NYC.

Also, regarding UConn, I doubt any school playing Division 1 football would join a non football playing conference. Just the way things are.
