One of my favorite players back to his Riverside Church days! Wish he was on staff to work with bigs on post moves, rebounding & playing smart. He serves his community just as well.

A great leader who played to his strengths (and knew his limitations) about as well as anyone.

Also perhaps the only STJ player coached by three different HCs: Mahoney, Fran, Jarvis.

Yeah, remember he and "Easy Ed" Brown both were recruited by Brian. Man was Ed lazy.

I was just near the beginning of being a St. John's fan during his playing days, but I don't remember him as a great leaper so much as a well-built space eater that hustled his arse off and did the dirty work--the kind of guy this roster has sorely missed under Lavin. 6'6 and undersized for the post, jacked, and limited athletically is how I recall Grant.

On an unrelated note, was at Riverside Church for the first time in my life last night. What a magnificent structure.

Leader, not leaper.

Damn, I don't stand a chance in my 70s.

Yes it is quite impressive.

I remember Coach K noting that if Grant played, they'd have lost. Loved watching him play

Teammates affectionately called him Ty Boogie. He had terrific post moves with quick feet and hands. Not fast but quick. A hard hat, lunch Pail, glue type of player you loved to have on your side.

Ran into Ty at a game in the Garden this year. Could not have been nicer. Didn't know he had his own organization, great stuff!

Was also a great guy off the court. Very funny guy!
