travel to Providence

I am driving up Wednesday morning, watch the game, spend the night in Providence and come home Thursday.

dec 4,1982, I was at the dunk to see SJU beat providence 61 to 60. jeff allen had 12 rebounds and was given a violation for taking too much time before shooting a free throw. I have never seen that called before or since.

I assume the rule still exists? I think it was a ten count. Refs would literally start the count when they handed ball to the shooter. Seems like a weird rule but there were guys that would do the the whole Mark Jackson thing simulating the shot before they would shoot. Much like the baseball player who would adjust the batting gloves, tap his cleats, fix his jersey ala Mike Hargrove the human rain delay.

I'd like to think that helped Allen sink the game winning free throws in the final seconds, trailing 60-59, the 60% FT shooter nailed both ends of the one-and-one to seal the victory.

Nope, not a gentlemen's club ..... Federal Hill is an old time neighborhood in the City of Providence with some of the best Itallian restaurants in New England.

How good are the Italian restaurants ? The Honorable Monte would would approve.

I was in Providence in late October taking my daughter on a college visit to Providence.

We ate at a pizza place in the downtown called Providence Coal Fired Pizza (OK but not great), but then went to Federal Hill for dessert.

It was a small Euro type cafe called Pastiche

At a different point in my life I spent many weekends in the City of Providence watching rowing (crew) dual races. I expected to find a rusted city but was pleasantly surprise to see a vibrant- diverse city with great ethnic food: Italian, Portuguese, and others. When I went to Federal Hill I felt that I was on the set of the Sopranos.

I attended 2 StJohns/ Providence College games at The Dunk. If you were a Providence fan you would call their student body "spirited", if you were a St. John's fan you would call their students intoxicated and obnoxious which is what makes college basketball great.

Didn't our fans count to 10 whenever Alonzo Mourning was at the line?
I can still see his routine, wiping his arm band across his face.
