Top Front Courts 21-22 Season

I personally think our front court will be great. Justin can be an AA this season. Soriano has had two very good years at a lower level but will have 5 months to get in better shape to play in CMAs system. With better conditioning and a few less pounds he can post similar numbers in the BE. However I believe Wheeler will be the biggest surprise. He will thrive in CMAs up tempo system and full court press either guarding the inbounds passer or trapping on a wing with his great length and speed.
i can’t wait for the season to start.

Also looking forward to seeing ranking of top backcourts.  I would think we should be in a similar position, i.e., top-20 — Posh, DAW, Smith, Mathis, Coburn (who I think is a sleeper) and Pinzon,

I don't disagree at all but, if our front court is listed at #20 and our back court is around #20, why aren't we getting any love in the preseason polls?

My feeling is that the lack of love is due to SJU not being part of the national discussion for quite some time.  I would suspect that once the team starts winning it will shoot up in the rankings rather quickly.

I always say that being a diehard SJU fan is very much like being one of the few Cleveland Indians fans beating the drum in the movie “Major League.”  At first, they were all by themselves, yelling “too high” as the ball hit by the Yankees flew into the outfield seats. By the end of the movie, the stadium was packed as the stadium erupted into singing “Wild Thing” as Charlie Shean walked to the mound.

One of these years, hopefully this one, we diehards will have a real life version of that experience….

I can’t wait to see us in action this year.  I think our front court will be difficult to contend with.  Champs at the 3 and Wheeler as an experienced stretch 4 I think will outperform his prior numbers by far in this system.  Hopefully Soriano can give us extended minutes because his size will be a big help. I don’t expect Soriano to be playing much more than half-game regardless with our style, but he will help a ton against teams with big centers. Soriano is also good at using his body for position and is a rebounding machine. We will have a lot of looks in the front court this year, both big and small lineups.

Both Nyiwe and Stanley look like they can bang people around when Soriano needs a blow.  If we have enough shooting I think we are a dangerous team.

Wow. Nice to hear St. John’s is in the discussion for its front court. It has been quite awhile since were even mentioned there. The back court yes. Front court? Good to see. Let’s hope they live up to the hype.

Nywie is mega athletic and I think will help when we want a shot blocker in the game.  He’s thin but has very long arms and great vertical.  Stanley and Drissa are also big kids who are athletic and seem like they can get it done inside.  We have a lot of depth.  Excited to see them play.

We can throw a lot of different looks at opponents, so I expect Mathis, Wusu, Pinzon, and Coburn in the mix up there as well. If they revisit this list, I think we could end up being at least a few spots better.

Bottom line ,we are bigger, stronger, have better players, better shooters, better rebounding, faster etc.we will just be a much better team which translate to more wins and an NCAA bid
