Curious where others rank their all time non tournament losses. This is top 5 for me. So was that game at seton hall 2 years ago when we had the game stolen from us.   Not sure what my other 3 would be. The Quincy Douby game was another probably. Thoughts ?

Mullin's exhibition loss to DII, St. Thomas Aquinas by score of 90-58.

The UCLA game in Lavin's return to Westwood. Never has a team been homered more than by that ref crew. Looking at a UCLA player was a foul.

Going way back into the time machine.

My worst: Missed charge on Louis Orr steamrolling Reggie Carter in the final seconds.

Runner-up: FIrst Big East road game at Miami, Malik Sealy senior year.

Loosing against DePaul in the NCAA tourney when Dallas Coumagy sp?  Missed the 2nd free throw on purpose , had a lane violation ( not called )  and rebounded and scored. Bouncing us by a point would be up there.

Feb 1980 vs Syracuse; At the end of the game, Louis Orr charges into Reggie Carter, but a ref from upstate NY calls the basket good and a foul on Carter, costing SJU the game.

Jan 2000 vs Ohio State; SJU leads by 7 with 3 minutes to go and loses.

Feb 2020 vs Georgetown; SJU blows a 14 point lead in the 2nd half and loses.

Feb 1983 at Villanova; Chris Mullin misses the 2nd free throw and Nova scores on a John Pinone jumper at the buzzer to win by one.

Dec 2018 at Seton Hall, as mentioned, LJ knocks away the inbounds pass, but the ref waves it off.

oh man forgot about that one and we were sitting next to you. We totally got reffed out if that game !

I think I may have you all beat going just by shock value.
Nov. 25, 1995.
St. John's loses The Lapchick Tournament to mighty UC Irvine with a roster filled with Felipe Lopez, Zendon Hamilton, Rowan Barrett, Ty Grant.

My mind is so numb from bad losses I can barely remember that game anymore :). The game Norms first year the night of the renaming of the court and Arena to Loooie when we lost to I think St Francis and that kid who went off on us. Cavallieri or something like that which inspired Bobres " a defining moment thread " we ( including me ) all gave him shite for that but he actually turned out to be right. At least on that one thing

February 27, 1985, lopsided loss to the Hoyas at MSG. Ranked #1 after beating them a month earlier at the Cap Center. It still breaks my heart.

That overtime or double overtime loss to Duke in the Garden during Artest's freshman year. It wasn't a bad loss, just heatbreaking in that it was almost a fabulous win.

More recently both embarrassing losses to Providence in Mullin's last year and that humiliating wipeout by Marquette in the Big East tourney that same year which was the last game I attended in person.

Also that overtime loss to PC in 2014 BE tourney that I believe cost us an NCAA bid.

That Marquette debacle I'm pretty sure that's the game Chi Days sat with the 114 crew and I got do pissed off during the game I told Nathalie we were leaving ( few minutes into the second half ) and as we were leaving the garden a door opens and we walk into I guess the theater at msg or something and there was boxing there and Nathalie and I end up in like reserve section with waitress service. Game sucked but turned out to be fun night

We were the underdog, but losing the 1971 NIT Championship game to Al McGuire's Marquette Warriors was tough, especially since we thought it was Louie's last game as SJU coach.

This is probably No. 2 for me for the pomp and circumstance surrounding this game.

It was almost like when the Mets were eliminated from the playoffs at the last game of the 2008 season AND THEN had an elaborate ceremony to close Shea Stadium.

That's kinda like getting dumped by a woman, and then immediately rehashing all the other women who dumped you. It ain't gonna make you feel any better. Although I wouldn't have any first hand experience with that /media/kunena/emoticons/wink.png

One stands out for me not because the opponent was bad, but because of how horrible they made us look: Minnesota decimating us by about 40 during their Final Four season was pretty brutal to watch.

That game was a few years after this one that was absolutely brutal to be at. I remember being at msg when we lost by like 30 to them.   Remember voshon Leonard giving us a beat down

Good thread idea. Need more time to think but one that comes to mind immediately was either 2012 or 2013 when we were already like 0-4 in conference and needed a win. We played Providence at CA.

Max Hooper got tied up. I'm sure that sentence will jog all of your memories
