Top 3 losses of my lifetime since 87

Fortunately, I live far enough away where I only go to the MSG games so not seeing this in person was a small blessing.

Do you remember the game against SHU where we got up like 24 points after Paul Gause scored on himself? We lost that game and Norm Roberts gave a press conference where at least he took some blame but was so dumbfounded that he kept repeating ‘Basketball’s Awesome’ because anything could happen. That was my peak of ST John’s futility (beating the time we lost to Samford in the Lapchick tournament), until today.

A top 3 loss???? The drama queens are coming out now. We are the 3rd worst team in the big east. Seton hall is 4th in the big east.

Most of us expected to lose to a better team tonight.

Most expected to lose ? You are just. Yeah you did and Beast did but most ?

And I stand by my to0 3. Maybe it would be too 5. That’s factoring in how important the game was into potentially leading to ncaa hopes and turning the season around and how we folded and lost at home

I place this loss as much worse than let’s say a Lavin or Mullin NCAA loss.

Almost every person as we were leaving and on the train platform and on the train home as mumbling how it’s one of the worst losses they have ever seen

But I give you credit on your prediction. This and you predicting the clock will turn to 11 o’clock twice a day is definitely in your top 3-5 predictions ever on this site

Eh. I knew this team was cooked after the UConn game. That game was worse because that we weren’t blowing games yet. The lack of fight in that 2nd half was alarming, at this point I’m apathetic about it. I’m actually more alarmed at the press conference than I was the game.

That’s totally fair. Uconn game bothered me just not like this one personally

As am I; NO cause for that type of bull$hit spewing in public; they’re all “great kids” followed by that!! I would think two, three or four times before I sent my kid to play for him now, short of a VERY self deprecating public apology.
Of course, there is always NIL to factor in!

This season has been especially excruciating not only because of the expectations, but because we've had the lead in just about all of our losses well into the game, and blew it. I've always felt like losing a game where you never lead is easier to tolerate as a die hard fan. Blowing the lead every game is such a let down.

Yes excruciating based on expectations, but as you wrote had the lead in so many contests

i brought a buddy yesterday to the game It was his first game of the season he attended. He was excited for the lead. I told him wait and then it happened. The hall chipped away before the half then that unbelievable bad second half. I sat there. Not shocked but as the game was coming to an end essentially pissed. Another game another season

They should have kept that stand across from the amex lounge that was giving away the gin and cucumber shots open. They would have gotten rid of their entire inventory by the end of the game

The game vs Maryland top open the season. Didn’t expect to win but the beating we took.

The BET game vs Villanova-they we’re good that ending painful.

No show vs ASU play-in I thought we were better that team disappointed all year

One of the worst ones I saw in person was the ass whipping we got from Marquette in Mullins final year at BET quarterfinal. Talk about a team quitting.

I’d put Tulane in my senior year at St John’s when we lost in NCAA tournament in top 3. I’m pretty sure JPODs had nickel beer happy hour after that game. We drank at least $4 that day after the loss my guess

Understand but it’s one thing to quit when you are getting waxed and another to quit while you’re ahead and the game is still there for you to win.

To me this doesn't come close to being one of our worst losses ever.
The arc of the season, is a different story.

I've said from the beginning that I believed this team was a bubble team, but would end up on the wrong side of the bubble.

Before this collapse, even in close losses, they were entertaining to watch and fan interest was palpable. Over the last 9 games, had they won 4, or maybe even 3, I'd look at the season much differently.

To be playing out the string so early when we raced out to 4-1, is really what pains me, not the Seton Hall loss.

As it stands, the season is a stinking pile of losses in mostly winnable games.

The lack of improvement is the most startling thing, considering how much effort CRP puts into 1 on1 time with players. I don't believe its for lack of effort on his part. Rick has been involved in every aspect of this program, way beyond what we expected even in a HOF coach.

In the end, biggest disappointment is that I viewed this season as a building block to a 13 or 14 win season next year in the big east.

As it stands we have a ton of work to do in recruiting and the portal to be a team that solidly dances next year.

I guess the reality of being a Johnny's fan really applies here: now isn't the time to bail on this program.
