Today's ESPN daily word...

Can anyone remember the last time a first game seemed to have so much riding on it? I'm thinking Kentucky in 2001 (Willie Shaw did touch the ball last lol). I know that if lose it's not the end of the world but it's almost as if some prognosticators are penciling us into the Tournament if we win Friday.

That was actually in 2000. I remember that game fairly well, and I do believe we got away with touching the ball. ;)

I'm certainly looking forward to Friday night's game. Looking for a good start.

It was 2000 but it was the 2000-2001 season I believe. Shaw was definitely not on the 2000 team that lost to Gonzaga in the 2nd round. Ugh, another painful loss.

I know it was the 2000-2001 season. I was just referring to the calendar date.

I thought we were going to do a few good things that season. We played horribly in December, and came back to life during the early part of the conference season. We started out 6-2 in the Big East, if my memory serves me correctly. Then, it was all downhill, afterwards.

We don't have anything to lose, but a lot to gain if we best a top 25 team like Wisconsin. Not only are they top 25, but they are consistently good every year, and a win would really legitimize SJU. It is a big game if we can win it...
